Thunderbird Club

You rang?

Ha! Cool looking head!

Seems like a general position, if i had one, id probably turn it into a spectorbird (slap some emg p & j bird housed pickups, & a haz preamp clone circuit). Or go dual volumes & leave it as such.

Had played a couple in store during their launch year, & was pretty surprised of them. Its been a number of years, though i may have recalled the preamp wasnt the best in range/tonality, but leaving it all in center, yielded the better results.

Yellow-green sounds about a good description for something that's not our forte.

How dyou refin it?

Maybe the preamp in comparison to the bigger names in the game, was perhaps lackluster¿ nevertheless, sucks yours had a warped bridge, though i assume the hipshot was a better piece overall.
The refin was by MJT Guitars. It is now Chevrolet Rally Green metallic. It was a lot more that what I paid for the bass, but my greatest talent is spending money to lower the value of something.

0 neck dive on this one!

And that is the stock Electar PU under the cover.
My Ibanez AGB200 has minimal neck dive-as I remember (I haven't played it since December 2024).

Addendum: Note the body's not as big as the JC/EB-2, which I woulda found awkward. The pups could be stronger but that's what the volume knob on the amp is for. :smug:

....been wanting one of these forever....

tb's/Luthier's Corner's own Bruce Johnson most likely knows of that bass. He's an authority of Ampeg scroll basses and has worked on many that are out there. But even more special is his Ampeg scroll bass clone's that he builds from scratch - every part of it.

‘74 P pass with a double set of Curtis Novak P-90 style pickups, for my D standard and drop C songs (RSR).

‘83 MIJ Fender JB-62 Jazz bass (JV serial) with a set of Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickups for my E standard and drop D songs (BL).

Going into the GK Fusion 800s and 212 Neo cab.

Yep, it’s a no ‘bird day today…

Played in Pawtucket last night to start off a World Cup outdoor watch party. Brought the Sterling, tonight it's the Thunderbird at Hill's Tavern, the worst sounding room in the state. 😝
How do you like that Bag End cab?
Loved every one that I’ve played through, albeit they’re heavy.

Headstock conversion? Looks really cool overall,
Yes, I have a black Casady which is great, but I kept thinking it would be nice to have one with a Gibson-size headstock and 1.5" nut width.
This gold one came up on FB Marketplace for cheap because it had taken a hit and had a damaged fret. I replaced the fret, stripped and reshaped the neck to 1.5"', cut down the end of the headstock to a Gibson-ish shape, plugged the tuner holes and put veneers on the front and back of the headstock. With Gotoh GB350 tuners, and the added tailpiece it's about 7.5 lbs.
It's completely balanced on a strap, but wants to tail dive when sitting....

I initially planned to paint the front of the body a different colour, but that gold finish is too nice!

And I’m wearing a Thunderbird shirt. Maybe I should change. :roflmao:
