Thunderbird Club

I always need to refresh my brain on Crazy Little Thing Called Love. I don't like to hack through such a nice bass line:)
Did Deacon play an upright for the recording of Crazy Little Thing?
I think I read a story at some point suggesting that?

Maybe I’m confusing this with ‘39 - evidently he got an upright for that, practiced on it overnight and recorded with it the next day.

Where do you find the time?

I did my daily four hour stint in the yard today, hit the shower, then the shed. Goal for this weekend is to get Beds Are Burning under my fingers. @TBird1958 inspired me. Her vid is great.
It's didn't take but maybe a couple hours. Even reshaped the forearm cut to be more like a '55.
Sat is my only full day off and I let some things go to do what I want at times. There's always a list of thins to do, so no point killing myself on a list that will outlast me.

DeColas, no split coil, Hipshot bridge, reverse headstock, and through neck???

Great job! Would have sounded great on Jazz as well.

We know that's not true.

Y'all killed it. In the good way.

As I mentioned, we opened for a Bad Co. Tribute band, they were excellent players and played a really impressive st that included "Wishing Well" "All Right Now" from Free and "Satisfaction" by The Firm. Their bassist was more than up to it, he played a great night using a Hartke rig and a metallic green PJ, unfortunately, he was not nearly as present in their mix as I was in the clip I posted.

awesome playing and tone! what strings?

Ken Smith Rockmaster Stainless Rounds and a .73 Tortex pic, the lows on the amp are dialed back, a little more "push" a little less mud. :bassist:

Just did a thing. Played one of these years ago and really liked the pickups and sound, at the time I passed on the purchase because they wanted too much for it, figured I’d just find another one for sale at a better price. Turns out the bass version of these things are fairly rare, so when one popped up on the web at a decent price I bit. We’ll see if that was a good move or not.
Should be here in about a week…

Hey, it’s at Least called a Thunderbird (Billy Bo Jupiter Thunderbird to be exact). I’m a ZZTop fan, not sure if Dusty ever played one of these but I know Billy did. Should be fun.

I don't think Crazy Little Thing is an upright. I wouldn't want to try that!

It's a fun song to play, we need to get it back on our set list, the guitar work being a bit more of the challenge - I hear a P Bass.

Looks great! Never heard one that I know of.
I think Dusty did, but not often.

Just found 3 notifications on my email from "Flint Violet". IDK if Kat would want me to post them, so I won't but they're on YT. Notalotta shots of her, but no 'superfluous' pup visible. ;)
EDIT: unfortunately shot from in front of the guitarist so kinda hard to hear her Thunderbird.
Also-completely unrelated-tonight's beverage of choice is Jameson's.
