Thunderbird Club

Not to dwell on the age thing, but I turned 58 on6/29. I have loved every minute of being a bass player. I have had some highs and deepest lows. My love of music and bass have always been a constant. It has lead me to some good life decisions others questionable. I would not change a thing. It's funny at this point in my life bass is as big if not bigger than I was young. My Who tribute is going well and the Fleetwood Mac tribute I joined is touring nationally, at 58 who knew that you could still do this? Sorry for rambling, just so very happy to have picked up the bass and that in this forum we can share our love for the instrument.
<RESPECT>

Somebody is enjoying the Seattle Sunshine!

Yay! It's finally really nice here. Will be spending the 4th with my brother and family in downtown Seattle, with a fantastic view of the fireworks over Lake Union, that plus some home made German food, I'm in heaven!

I'd cry but I don't feel old lolView attachment 1167861

Killing me with that rig Scott, I love what I have, but just once I'd love to play a show with that set up blowin' up the back of my skirt!

I'm just a little ahead of you in age, and would only echo your thoughts, I've loved being in The Nasty Habits, it's been the experience of a lifetime that's gone on for at least 12 years now. Rock on my Thunderbird Brother!

Same my friend!

It's a lesson we seem to relearn for time to time. my advice? Never let the missus know your hung over!

Been a long time since I tied one over like last night.
But at least I did not turn out to be a biligerent embarrassing blowhard.

If there was a missus, she would have slapped me around a couple of times and said, c'mon man.........

So it goes.

Brimming with new found confidence after assembling the NRBird this week I have just now adjusted the truss rod on the Epi. It's almost like being a kid and going into the part of the pool where your feet don't touch the bottom.

The hardest part was working out which Allen key to use - is it this one? No - it must be this one. It turned easily - no corrosion or gunk. Will leave a couple of days to settle but the bridge saddles probably need dropping a hair.
Kat being able to setup and work on your own basses is a godsend! I don't know your experience so I will just say go slow the bass traveled a long way and will need to adjust to the climate.

So, if these new Birds are built as solid as their predecessors, the worst case scenario, is replacing the pick-ups.
I would be none the wiser as i would have no other Birds in hand to compare.
@TBird1958 will though.
I'm taking the plunge myself, i have a feeling they are going to be good.

I hope that the early reviews give an indication of Classic pickups Vs Vintage pickups etc.

I'm not against looking for a second hand or run out Classic Pro.

So, you have less than 10 years on me, but I have been playing just a year (actually had my first lesson the first week of June last year). It is also my first foray into music. I really wish that someone had pushed me a little to do music when I was a kid. Instead I pursued the hard sciences almost to the exclusion of all else. It has worked well for me. But I really love playing and I am glad I have taken it up (even this late in life). I find it quite meditative and relaxing.

Like you, I regret none of my decisions. If I had it to do all over again, I would make completely different decisions, but I suspect I would end up in exactly the same place.

Well I started out 36 years ago ... but have never done more than intonation or saddle height adjustments until this week (poking about in the electronics doesn't count). The truss rod adjustment was on my 2011 Epi Reverse chromed out ChinaBird. Now there's a super well set up NRBird in the house it is clear that the Epi is a little 'sub-optimal'. Hopefully that quarter turn will do it.

Think the nighmare stories of Ric truss rods kept me nervous all those years.
