Thunderbird Club

I just picked up a used 12"/6" cab a couple weeks ago. Also has a horn which may or may not get used. Got it for a decent price and was what I was looking for; a cab with a small footprint. I'm still experimenting with it and the Ashdown but so far I like it. I still have a little time to decide if I want a refund but I am likely to keep it. I am terrible at describing tone and sounds, so no help to you there. It packs a punch and is pretty articulate, which is probably not the best for my playing style but maybe it will force me to focus more and improve my playing.

Not as light as today's smaller cabs (it's approx. 45lbs and probably close to 10 years old) but small enough to easily move. Need to scrub up the grill and re-paint it, if I keep it. It's only for home use really because I am not playing out anytime soon so I think I will keep it.

I don't know if I am allowed to even mention who the builder was because he has been (rightly) vilified for business practices here at TB. Just in case I covered part of the badge with a Post-It note. I wouldn't have bought it if the builder was getting the money but buying it used seems okay at this point. Of course feel free to let me know if this purchase makes me a scumbag and I will return it and buy a non-tainted cab.

No idea who that'd be, i seem to have either not been on TB long enough for it, or i completely bypassed the controversy. Any case, good score! How's the low end with it? For my style of playing, i definitely enjoy articulation & clarity, but as long as it's got the low end push/rumble, i'm good - which i'm glad of my 90's SWR goliath II 410s rear ported, & so much low end but clear & punchy.

As others have mentioned, just pull the logo off & boom. If you have a spot that does custom badges, idk your idea but Nocturnal would be a sweet cabinet logo, with some bats in the fold of it :)

I can’t wait to see that thunderbird in September!
Tell the truth, you just want to see Adam Ant! When I worked maintenance and then construction my best friend at the time was really into AA. Like with everything, different things turn people's cranks. Mine was never turned by him! Didn't know he was still performing. Figured he worked at Walmart or something.

I think the Red Clay Strays would be good as well. Kind of different/funky cool.
We might go. I want to but I can't decide. Previously JT was kind enough to mention any time we wanted tickets, but I'm not sure I want to stand out in the what might be miserable hot weather. Of course it would be night by the time they play. No telling when we would be standing at an outdoor show like that. When he got us tickets for Indy they were great seats on the floor and a few rows from the front. Unfortunately not on the bass side. They are going to be in Cinci is Aug, but an outdoor stadium.

Puts out some low end for sure, but not boomy or too dark sounding.

I have gone every year, and there have been some HOT ones. Just gotta be smart about it. It's generally a laid back festival and lots of free water stations. It is ran very well! My biggest complaint is the prices! $15 for a drink and $25 for a burger and fries. The wife and I have the 4-day pass this year. I am really looking forward to Stapleton, Marcus King, Queens of the Stone Age, Goose, Red Clay, and Cheap Trick!

I'm also unaware of the controversy and sorta' glad. I'd just have to add it to a long list of current controversies in the world...

So here's some post bday pics of my unintentional present. This used Epiphone '64 Thunderbird in Silvermist came in on trade at The House of Guitars and after it sat for a while I decided it should come home with me and join the flock. I got a great deal on it, it needed a cleaning and a setup desperately. I put a brand new set of Rotosounds on it, filed the nut and adjusted everything, plays and sounds like a Thunderbird should. Not my favorite color but it's growing on me.

I knew it was only a matter of time before a BD Thunderbird showed up! :smug: Congrats! It went to a good home where it will get some good use.

Every time I try one, I don't like it. Go figure. They work fine for some people. I'm not one of those people.

Tort? Salami is for sandwiches.
Is it the sound or the ergos?

I do prefer the 60s pickup spacing, tho some will say the sound difference is negligible.

I certainly hear a difference between 60s spacing with nickels and 70s spacing with stainless.
