I splashed on a sidewinder I found on fb marketplace, a Sentell. Supposed to be clear and articulate, maybe it wasn't what I want after all!

Gonna be a minute, but I'll surely be posting a short treatise on it, lol. So far it's going in the ex-Heckinecker along with the Gibson T Bird reissue p'up I got a couple weeks ago.
I don't get the idea it's going to be the dark, lumbering, bark of doom that was in the Terry Reid video, but maybe it has a piece of that in there somewhere.
Experiments are cool.

Nothing here (Simi Valley area) either.
LOL - I've never even measured any nut slots I've cut. I just string up the bass and position the G and E strings where I like them in relation to the edges of the fretboard, mark the nut, then eyeball the D and A strings to about the same air gap from each other and the G and E strings. If I have pickups with pole pieces it becomes even easier. I am impressed with all the thought he's put in it though, it a lot more than I would have done.

Yes, have made & cut many nuts of many materials (bone, brass, ebony, rockwood and hybrids/blends of two materials) and always by eye. My '64 II came from the factory with a really off (bone) nut. I didn't notice it until many years of playing past. Same with incorrect intonation due to the bridge placement & width. Just played it! Of course both helped align it to it's optimal stripe...
I worked with as carpenter who once told me he hadn't used a pencil in 17 years.

Interestingly I don't find a lot of buzz about these pickups. And the most said thing about them is "high end clarity", and there seems to be a cut of player who wants the EB-3 without the "blur" (I kinda think that's part of the deal you have to get through)... But I do like the cumbersome-like feel of a tuned-in Mudbucker, and here's a step towards it, perhaps.
