I think they are a great deal and a lot of bang for the buck. Same quality of Gibson is subjective. I don't think the wood is the same quality between the two but that doesn't mean the Epi is not made of quality wood. Some Gibson's have bad QC while some Epi's will be flawless, and vice versa. For the price difference between the two, I think you will be fine with the Epi.

Depends. Mine is flawless, but saw reviews about sharp frets etc, but that's the absolute minority ime.

Can't realy judge it on a real basis as I only have 1 of each.

I'm sorry to say that I'm not qualified to answer your question, as I'm pretty new here myself... but I couldn't let you slip away without commenting on your avatar! I've never been much of a B.C. Rich guy... but I've always had a soft spot for the Mockingbird... and the one in your avatar is absolutely exquisite!:thumbsup:

This is a bird post so I suppose I can show this

This was my heritage classic. I had it for about a year but ended up trading it back for my Warwick Corvette. I'll tell you man that bass was great. I am friends with the owner and it hurts my heart when I walk in his house and see it hanging. He plays it with his bands constantly, so I'm glad it gets seen. It's even better in person and under stage lights

It's a great bass for the money, in some ways better than a Gibson, and vice versa. I did find that I liked my '89 Gibson neck a tad better, but that's only by a little bit and purely personal preference. Back when they were new I did a fairly lengthy written review that I posted on TB, my conclusion was that it's a great bass, period, no reason to qualify it by mentioning price, truly a quality, affordable Thunderbird.

I love Mockingbirds, that's making me pine for one again, the gentleman that designed it, JohnK used to be on TB a lot, don't know if he anymore.

Oh maaaaaaaaaan... I don't know if he would feel inclined to do it... but I would love to see a Cataldo interpretation of a Mockingbird bass:woot:

Well, i've lost all interest and bonding with my Jazz bass.
I just can't get on with the tone of it anymore.
I knew this day would come.

For a short time, i ran a 100Watt Plexi through and orange 4x12 and a Marshall 2x15.
Ok, impedence mismatch on the cabs, but everything ran fine.
It was a killer tone, nothing the likes i've heard prior to trying that for a while.
