Thunderbird Club

Thought some of you might enjoy this one. I hadn't seen The Memphis ES Les Paul Bass in sunburst- the ones I had seen had been gold tops.
I know these are really expensive for what they are but OMG this one is gorgeous!- just not close to $AU6K gorgeous. Particularly, when I have two great basses with the same pickups.

No way associated with the sale.

I like that idea as I may want to put some sort of gold/brassy looking thing on the vintage pro whenever that is out.

Go to the craft store in the mall (Michael's or whatever) - they have all kinds of flat decorative sheets perfect for layering.

What about The Angels, or Angel City as some over here might know them.

The Angels always put on a good show and could rock hard. I saw them many times as well, but were a pop band in comparison to Radio Birdman around '75- '77 and the The Saints to an extent, IMO.
There was something about Radio Birdman on a good night. You felt like this is a very special band I am watching- I felt it with Cold Chisel, ACDC, the Divinyls and Midnight Oil at times.
I always liked Rose Tatts too- they rocked very, very hard. I saw them open for Sabbath some time in the 70s (can't remember exactly when) and they outbrutaled Sabbath.

I played to an intimate crowd of about 20+ tonight, it has seriously been more than 20 years since I was a punk playing at a house party that was overflowing with high school students. What a fantastic fn' feeling, I totally forgot that anybody was watching once I hit the second set of riffs on the first song. Its such a great feeling of accomplishment when the headlining band members tell you how impressed they were with the sound and playing style you possess. Im a pretty humble guy and dont expect or ask anything from anyone ever and because I am self taught I tend to think that I fly under the radar but obviously my influences have brought me out under the spotlight. I love playing bass!. Its all I want to do.

No, but I think you should build fixer a fatnecked bird when his LP gets sold.
I appreciate you throwin' that out there for me... but Cataldo's are already one of the best (if not the best) deals in the custom hand built bass market. His prices are very competitive, but still out of my reach. I have no problem with that. There's a lotta s#!t I can't buy! That's the main reason I don't drive a Benz!

@theFixer - yeah the neck profile thing is very subjective. If you ask me I'll tell you that the NR41 has a quite a chunky neck, and it does have in relation to the Epi, but you would probably think it was a little insubstantial thing. For me it is supremely comfortable to play and I have bigger hands than your POTUS.

The much anticipated Vintage Pro is listed as having a '1960s Rounded Bass Profile' neck which sounds more substantial than slim taper, but never having even seen a 60s Thunderbird, this is supposition (or a suppository as I'm talking out of my arse).
I'm certainly not the resident authority, but I believe the '1960s Rounded Bass Profile' is a 1.5" nut width, with a sorta thickish rounded back. Still thin for my bear paws... but I'm certain you'll find it comfy. It will just fill your hand a little more than what you're probly used to.

Odd, what do you get for a used LP over there?

That's odd. I'd like to know what's causin' that when you get it figgerd out...

Will do, but I really think it's the string either size or dead out of the box.

Who makes that bass?. I got a Chickenbacker that has a neck pickup too narrow to recognize the the top string so I had to swap it out for a lengthier one.

It's an Epiphone. By the dimensions I'd say it's got Firebird PUPs, but the strings are still well above them.

THE OTHER Australian band:

Always thought Rose Tattoo was the other Aussie band.

I'm selling to my best friend of over 30 years. "Going rate" doesn't really apply here, if ya knowutahmean;)

Oh... yeah? I hope that's all it is! Simple fixes are good. We like simple:thumbsup:

Ah I see. But it still might be a large chunk on your way for a Cataldo. By everything you posted so far you'll need a custom bass.

Hope it's that simple.
It's sounds alright when played dry. On my usual eq settings (raised mids and treble) it was just a high pitched ping with the tone left open. Rolled off the tone, highs and high mids to 11 o'clock. Turned off contour and went with that.

Weird thing was that it sounded pretty good on the Ashdown - also set up with mids and treble boosted.

Ashdown... that's a name I'd like to get familiar with. Once again... nobody local carries them.

Is that Allen Woody a hollow body, or does it have a solid center block?
