Johnny Walker was my "gateway" Scotch. After having found single malts, I can't stand the taste of blends. In my defense... after going to single malts... I've barely tried any blends. The few times I have, reminded my why I don't. I've had JW red, black, and blue... and wouldn't use them for anything more than paint thinner.

Talking about JW and blends: A friend opened up a bottle of this at new years eve. One of the best beverages ever.

I'd drink that. I've had the JW Blue and really liked it, but don't think it's worth anywhere near what it costs. I tend to drink a lot more bourbon than scotch.

Oh... I would never spend that much on something that I intended to use as paint thinner. I would at least try it before devoting it to such a cause!
Thus far, every blended Scotch whiskey I've tried, has a "bite" to it, that I just don't care for. Same with most bourbons. I like it smooth, neat, and sippable. I like it to compliment the food (or cigar) I'm enjoying with it... not bury it.

Oohhh... now, don't be like that! It's actually my favorite drink. I just wish I could sip it instead of having to slam it. There are a few variations... but my preferred one goes like this:
Get a shot of Irish cream, float a little Irish whisky on top of it, and drop it (glass and all) into a half pint of Guinness, then slam it (you have to slam it, cuz the Irish cream starts to sorta "curdle" when it hits the beer). The taste is absolutely scrumptious! I strongly urge you to try it!
People always assume that it's like some kinda frat party ritual intended to make you piss your pants & forget your name. That really isn't the case with the car bomb. They don't subject you to the brain cell genocide that those kinds of drinks usually do. On my best night... I put 13 of 'em away in addition to keeping pints of Guinness by my side all night.
(P.S. that was not my "best" night

That stuff blows any single malt out of the water. Super smooth, a bit smokey. It's a blend of top notch scotches. Bottle is between 320 and 400€.
So... I wasn't really planning on adding a new Thunderbird to the heard, and certainly not a 'burbst' one...
However last night an Epi Classic Pro-IV came up in my local classifieds: A mint and practically brand new Classic Pro-IV with an original mint Epi case (new tapered model), new heavy duty Richter Raw leather strap with Dunlop Dual Design straplocks and a mint Hercules GS412B stand.
All this for $ 319 /€ 269
Current new price at Thomann for all items are $ 810 / € 682,4 which is not a bad price here in Europe either...
On top of this, it's probably the nicest red Vintage Sunburst I've ever seen, and the bass is ultra light (3.6 kg / 7.94 lb) and has ultra-low action, no fret buzz and perfect intonation and new strings! (For comparison my Alpine White Classic Pro weights 4.1 kg / 9.04 lb).
I guess I scored big time!

I was actually looking at a more broad scope. For instance... "I bought this in '73 for $250.00, and now it's worth $6,000.00" kinda thing.
I used to work with a guy that had a beautiful '68 ES-335 that he found at a garage sale. The price on it was $225, but he only had $175 on him... and the guy took it! That was around 1995 or so.
It was pretty much identical to this one:

Broon? It's weird seeing it pop up in the USA -- you see it on TV shows and things even. When I was in the Toon once, I asked the lass behind the bar for a 'dog', tryin' to show I could taak the local lingo and that. She was a student from that London and had nee bliddy idea what I was on aboot. After that I confined myself to requesting 'broon ale'.
Had a pint of 'real' ale once. Dishwater it was. Never again. Otherwise, on the odd occasions I drink, it's Czech/German pilsner or lager.
