Thunderbird Club

Broon? It's weird seeing it pop up in the USA -- you see it on TV shows and things even. When I was in the Toon once, I asked the lass behind the bar for a 'dog', tryin' to show I could taak the local lingo and that. She was a student from that London and had nee bliddy idea what I was on aboot. After that I confined myself to requesting 'broon ale'.

Had a pint of 'real' ale once. Dishwater it was. Never again. Otherwise, on the odd occasions I drink, it's Czech/German pilsner or lager.
This puts me in the mind of a guy from the Nooooth who played rugby with me back when I was in New York. His name was Dooooooglis. Doooogie for short. Seeing him try to order in a McDonalds was entertaining. "Oid loik a Bug Muck." Blank look. "Oid loik a Bug Muck!" Blank look. Laughter from the rest of us. Somebody always said "Speak English, Doooooglis!" He would then say "Oi um speeekin Ungwyish! Whoy cooount peoypou oondastoond whah oim sayin! Oim jooost troyin t'oooda a Bug Muck!"

For what it's worth, my London born and raised wife rolls on the floor when I drag out the Dooooooglis impersonation. I don't know if she's laughing because it's right on and it's funny, or if it's so awful and inaccurate that it's funny. She doesn't let on and I don't ask. The answer might not be flattering.
