Thunderbird Club

I thought about an SG for next year, if they do come out, but I'd want 34" scale. Too bad they all seem to be short scale.

That was the beauty of the SGZ, it was long scale.

And of course, the placement of the pickups, i thought it was a good design.
But it really didn't take off, but would love to have one.

One could only imagine what it would cost though.

If it were faithful to the original, really faithful like a Thunderbird II in Inverness Green.... I'd go 4K.

I don't think there's a chance in Hell they'll do it though.

Oh, i hear you, truly faithful repro, yeah, it'd be hard to pass up.
Especially if one were made as you described.
Although it would still be way out of reach for me.

Just sell a kidney! It's the reason you have two!

What would really be cool is if the Vintage Pro really takes off, maybe Epiphone can add a custom color or two in the mix.
It would still come in way less then...............

I'm still healthy, maybe i should consider that kidney selling thing.

@Gaolee What's the word on Acoustic 301's with a bad speaker? For $200 CAD
You can get the speaker reconed. You can also replace it, but I would see about reconing first. I would jump on it. Well, actually I wouldn't, but that's only because I have a couple healthy 360 stacks already.

What would you be driving it with?

More to flip it, but I have a Mesa Strategy (I got it for roughly equivalent to $1500-1800 US WITH a mint Mesa 410, and I like the multi watt feature)

I'm not disparaging anyone for wanting the Epiphone. Just excited and glad to see that Gibson hasn't completely abandoned her flock, of Thunderbirds that is. The RD Artist is filling me with anticipation as well.

Yes I saw the press about the 2018 limited numbers Gibson basses.
I have two RDs- a Standard and an Artist and they are unique basses- very different from each other but each unique because of the electronics. I wonder what the electronics will be like in the new Artist.
The Novoselic Standard a few years back missed the mark IMO by simply using Jazz Bass pickups- the Standard had Humbuckers that were only ever used in that bass, which gave it a voice of it's own. If they just stick TB+s in an RD body without all the fancy electronics and call it an Artist because they put an inlay on the headstock, it will be a major disappointment.
The other issue for the new RD could be it's weight. The original RDs had very thick maple bodies and were heavy basses (around 11 pounds), which actually helped them balance reasonably well.
I don't want to to be a downer butI am not confident Gibson will do the RD Artist justice.
