70s? Simpler time? I was in jr. high and then high school. Everything has been simpler than that. Plus, we got subjected to a non-stop barrage of Hotel California and Rhiannon. No matter what you think of either song, after about 2,394,738,906 repeats, they get old. Things have gotten better.
Bikini top? That would be my cute cousin Anna Maria and the boy in the yellow swim trunks is my older brother.
The 70s were such a simpler time.

One of my faves:
I'm certain this builder KAMINARI has been mentioned in all 365,704 pages of the Club. I've seen other builds, awesome, with pin-stripes hand-painted & such.
Of course I realize why there are T-Bird fanatics- It's an iconic design for this and the previous centuries, prolly the next as well! Absolutly stunning, and with the T-Bird style pups out today, and builders like Kaminari,
Atelier-Z Invalid Link Removed (both great Japanese builders)
as well as many US-made variants, inc. the OG Gibson-
Another build I'd rob for:

I was just wondering how it seemed that "T-Bird Club" always got on Pole Position on the "Basses" Forum??

Daum right!Because we're an Elite Corps, dedicated to our favorite bass, we accept no substitute, take no quarter.

The Atelier looks too busy with all the knobs, just not right on a Bird.
Used to own a Sukop Classic. Very nice bass but sold it and bought an Alembic instead, haven't looked back. Although I wasn't aware Sukop had a Bird offering, guess I'll keep my eye out for a used one...
as long as it doesn't sound like this one...
They're making' travel basses now, that will fit into your carry-onGoing to universal studios in Orlando. Wife banned all basses for a week when she saw me pack one up for the plane.
That means she wants you to look for one when you get there.Going to universal studios in Orlando. Wife banned all basses for a week when she saw me pack one up for the plane.
I don't recall ever seeing slap techinque like that on a bass guitar. It's like he was trying to play psychobilly on steroids. Those guys make an upright sound like a typewriter, and he goes even farther down that rathole. Oh, well. I'm sure there's a place for that kind of technique or he would not have spent the obviously huge amount of time to develop it.I couldn't even tell what the bass was supposed to sound like! S&P is a valid technique, and like any style... there's a time & place for it. When trying to give an audience an idea what a bass sounds like, ain't it. That demo put me in mind of a time when I was riding in my Dad's ol' '63 Chevy pickup & a tire blew out at 60 mph!

Carlo beat me to it, but be sure to tell your wife that it would be cool to do a bit of window shopping while in Orlando. Take her out to look at clothes or jewelry or purses or shoes (whatever floats her boat) then after you've bought her something nice she can take you out to a "quaint little boutique mom and pop shop" that might have a couple of pieces of gear in stock worth looking at (there's an understatement). She'll feel obliged to get you something there. Maybe something used and kinda Bird like, like this...Going to universal studios in Orlando. The Kaminari is really a beautiful build, w/ Lollar or Lull pups, sweet.
Here'a a little better vid of Sukops bass, Steven is a geat guy to talk with. Someday....
(2) 'Birds-Then I'd come here and gloat like a mofo!
The style in the 1st vid is annoying to me too. I get the skillz & technique it requires to play in that fashion, but IMO its non-musical, too flamboyant, "show-offy" and hurts the ears all too soon. At NAMM, I work across the aisle from G-K, behind Tec-Amp, next to Epifani, and around the corner from Kiesel. Schlap-City. There have been times when, if I were armed! there might been trouble!!
I can apply the same statement to these bass players, that I apply to Steve Vai. Though I respect the talent, skill, and dedication that is required to play like that... it's got no soul. Who cares how many words you know, if you have nothing to say?
What, you don't think electricity and water mix well? I have played on a dock. Our drummer (also female for whatever that's worth) got stung by bees and never broke the groove. I got zapped in the mouth a couple times, but as a CroMagnon, it didn't bother me that much. We were playing a private event for some rich people. There was a private sea plane pulled up to an adjacent dock. I'm surprised they didn't call the cops when we turned up in my van.
Plus we are a biker gang. Somebody confirmed that in another thread somewhere.
