Thunderbird Club

Time for a beer, then a bit of bass.

Cheers!

Bikini top? That would be my cute cousin Anna Maria and the boy in the yellow swim trunks is my older brother.

The 70s were such a simpler time.

Ah, the good old days, when child protective services would not be called for letting your kids drink a Pepsi, smoking with kids in the car, and not wearing seatbelts (a child car seat is just the back seat).

Get the hell off my lawn, I want to play with my vintage lawn darts.

Just decided to adjust the action on the Greco. Gotta say I'm impressed, the neck is pretty much straight, no changes needed there, and I've got the bridge dropped pretty much flat (flat on the front post, slightly raised on the two sides). Talk about low action, and no fret buzz. The only thing is to compensate I had to drop the pickup even lower, it's level with the ring, I was a bit worried the adjustment screw would blow out the back side! On a related but less exciting note, I think my main Precision needs to visit the shop. 11 years of Rotosound Swing 66s has finally taken its toll, and I fret out on the high frets of the G when I bend up. Guess they are probably due for a level, and good overall setup. I've never touched the settings on that bass in 11 years, just switched strings, probably overdue for some maintenance.

What a difference a good nut makes.

Uh, phrasing?

70s? Simpler time? I was in jr. high and then high school. Everything has been simpler than that. Plus, we got subjected to a non-stop barrage of Hotel California and Rhiannon. No matter what you think of either song, after about 2,394,738,906 repeats, they get old. Things have gotten better.

Try listening to AM radio now. As Geddy says, there are a lot of empty calories on the radio.

I like the looks of that Yardbird!
The Atelier looks too busy with all the knobs, just not right on a Bird.
Used to own a Sukop Classic. Very nice bass but sold it and bought an Alembic instead, haven't looked back. Although I wasn't aware Sukop had a Bird offering, guess I'll keep my eye out for a used one...
as long as it doesn't sound like this one...

Well, the thing is that as much as I'm not fond of this design (at all) - it addresses 2 of the functional shortfalls of a T-bird design; access to the lower frets and an extended upper strap-peg location. But having noted that it always circles back to why T-bird owners put up with these shortfalls - a T-bird looks bitchin' and sounds like its name - thunderous. The Sukop has major shortfalls in those depts.

And the 1st 'demo' vid is about as impressive as listening to a coat hanger stuck in a lawn mower while the second one is classic trade-show wanking. I'll take a T-bird any day of the week and would never be so in need of attention to play like that in a public setting. -sheesh!- embarrassing.

Im sorry if I offend anyone but I gotta be honest. I agree whole heartedly with JIO but Im gonna take this one further. Please brace yourselves Thunderbird Club, family, gang or cult. I Fn hate this "Sukop" thing. My Bird witnessed this video and the poor thing let out a sour note. IT NEVER LETS OUT A SOUR NOTE!........EVER!. I looked at my Bird and said "baby everything is gonna be fine once daddy kills off the spam were experiencing".

I agree. The tone is not my thing. The skills involved are something I don't have and don't need.
I come from a very simple school of bass playing and I like it that way.
Been doing it for a long time and........get off my lawn.

I do some finger tapping and I can get pretty silly about it at times, its great for warming up the fingers but otherwise I use it very rarely with my band and when I do its pretty low tempo for short periods of time. What this guy is doing doesnt have a soul.

@veebass ... @RedVee

Just saw an Orville TBird IV hanging up in Pete's Musicians Market on King Street in Newtown. Natural gloss finish, hardshell case @ $AUD1100-ish.

Youse knows youse wants it.
Yes I do want it. I wonder if it's Gregs? (From Ozbass)
The hot water system won't be denied much longer tho. Life stuff - gets in the way sometimes.
