Thunderbird Club

But, do you judge or condemn those that do use and/or appreciate them? Do you consider them crap because it's not your thang? Granted, I don't know you at all outside this forum... but I feel safe in saying that's not your usual MO. I agree that these videos are NOT doing that company any favors. You could drop a box of spoons down a long staircase & get a better sound. TBPH... I don't like the super deep mega cutaway (I understand it... I just don't like it)... but otherwise, I think they're gorgeous. That has more to do with my appreciation for beautiful woodwork than anything else. I guess I look at it like a (presumably) high-end custom shop is tipping it's cap to the Thunderbird... and I'm down with that:thumbsup:
Well pointed out. I'm also "just gotta sayin' ", however, that that top-shop T-Bird tribute's lower cutaway looks to me like a large predator with lots of big sharp teeth took a game-ending bite out of it, and left it to compost. It's just a sensibility thing, but it's not ignorable. I also hold no favor for spalted wood in most cases- it looks dirty to me. I would have said nothing and shined it on, but the grisly aspect arrested me and there I said it...

Anyone who questions my integrity and or well being really oughtta dig down deep and feel for me ya know what I mean?, if Ive ever been misunderstood its because I come from Winnipeg bum f##k Manitoba. Seriously!, watch these men in the video!......this is what Fn' happens here!. If you can watch the entire episode I'll send you bannock eh!.......and a link to the Beachcombers.

I tried man. I really did... for you. I made it almost halfway through... but then, I heard a click. I looked down, and was surprised to see a gun in my hand. But how? I hadn't left this spot. I hadn't taken my headphones off. How did this gun get in my hand? How did the hammer get cocked? Why was it moving towards my head? I'm glad I came to when I did! Who knows what would've happened had I not stopped the video when I did! Clearly the Canadian government is working with local cable access on some kind of population control manifesto. NOBODY could sit through that and survive! Have you been tested yet? You know... to see what the long term effects of prolonged exposure might be?

You poor, poor bastard...:jawdrop:

I find you offensive as hell! It doesn't have anything do with your opinion of that bass though:roflmao:

Honestly... I thought those basses were sexy as hell! I think you might be viewing them through Gibson colored glasses. Ya gotta get those notions out of your head! I wager you're feelings wouldn't be so strong if it was a Fodera, or Ken Smith, or one of the 99,000,000 other "Jazz Bass inspired" custom shop variants. This particular custom shop bass, happens to be a "T-bird inspired" design. It's as "outside the box" as the Mighty Thunderbird itself was, back in '63! I don't see one of them ending up in my collection... but I find them unique, beautiful, and certainly worth checking out if the opportunity were to knock!

I don't think they're unique at all just a Tbird/Explorer-Fodera mash. Not my cup of tea and those vids are everything that's wrong in the bass world today. Big IMO.

Are those the canadian Carpenters?

I know what you mean, I felt myself starting to 'check out'.

Dude there is a rule I live by and that is to absolutely never "judge or condemn those that do use and/or appreciate" things I dont like or understand. I could exist carefree and easy in any circumstance as long as I stick to my own likes and beliefs whilst refraining from criticism. Just because I despise something doesnt alter my take on its value. I will never pass judgement on other peoples beliefs and passions. I will however throw out my 2 cents every now and then. In Canadian funds thats like the equivalent of what?......minus 28 cents on the greenback?.
As of this moment... I believe it's minus 26.5, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think we have any plans to collect;)

I started watching it was halfway through. I use no script and had to allow a google script for another site. Now yt reloaded and I'm at the beginning again.

A gun to the head seems like a viable option right now.

This just came up in my Facebook feed. I know it is a six string, but a bass version could be interesting.

Framus/ Warwick Idolmaker 6- designed for Sixx.

And the fact we don't use pennies anymore.

To me it hardly looks like a thunderbird, looks more like an Ibanez BTB single cut

Just the ticket for the upright players out there:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Wow! That's a pretty cool looking upright! :)

A shame about the price tag - Otherwise I would love getting my hands on one of those... :)

Since this is my birth year page(1969), here's a pic of me when I was adorably cute. :smug:

That was then... What is it now: Adorable or cute? ;)

Both statements are, however, true. ;)

I concur...

That means she wants you to look for one when you get there.

Exactly! I'm dead certain that's what it means... ;)

Well, the thing is that as much as I'm not fond of this design (at all) - it addresses 2 of the functional shortfalls of a T-bird design; access to the lower frets and an extended upper strap-peg location. But having noted that it always circles back to why T-bird owners put up with these shortfalls - a T-bird looks bitchin' and sounds like its name - thunderous. The Sukop has major shortfalls in those depts.

And the 1st 'demo' vid is about as impressive as listening to a coat hanger stuck in a lawn mower while the second one is classic trade-show wanking. I'll take a T-bird any day of the week and would never be so in need of attention to play like that in a public setting. -sheesh!- embarrassing.

I'm with you on the design of the Sukop - Besides looking way too much like a coffee table... :vomit:

I have absolutely no idea what all this horrible trade-show wanking is about, other than attention seeking. Pretty much the same poopie happens at music stores when people are trying out basses, and is my primary reason for not (or at least seldom) buying/trying basses and guitars at shops - I hate getting exposed to this s*** from other customers wanking, and in particular don't like being looked at, while trying an instrument myself.

I usually order stuff online and try it out at home, and never had to return an item so far... :)

Actually, what this guy is doing could just as well be done on a typewriter (remember those) and it would be every bit as musical. I'd go so far as to say, his bass playing skill level as demonstrated in the video is pathetic at best and annoying at least. His speed, finger dexterity, muscle memory and mastery of certain very rarely needed playing techniques borders on brilliant, but if that's all he has in his toolbox he's not gonna build anything of value from a bass playing career standpoint.

But what do I know, I dislike even modest amounts of slap, pop and tap in actual music. Just sayin.

Edit: OMG it's contagious...

Remind me to NEVER pick up or buy a Sukop bass, lest I fall into this horrible wankfest hell hole. Just flip me a Bird and I'll be perfectly happy.

Those videos are really bad... Maybe it's a pre-requisite to play like that for being allowed to try out the Sukop..?;)

That is actually quite cool and nice...

It's kinda like a cross between a Schecter Ultra and a Diamond Hailfire.. :)

With the abolition of the penny, you can put in your $0.05 or say nothing...

I still believe that the abolition of the penny was a scheme to increase income tax and stifle political debate.
