Thunderbird Club

...What this guy is doing doesnt have a soul.
Actually, what this guy is doing could just as well be done on a typewriter (remember those) and it would be every bit as musical. I'd go so far as to say, his bass playing skill level as demonstrated in the video is pathetic at best and annoying at least. His speed, finger dexterity, muscle memory and mastery of certain very rarely needed playing techniques borders on brilliant, but if that's all he has in his toolbox he's not gonna build anything of value from a bass playing career standpoint.

But what do I know, I dislike even modest amounts of slap, pop and tap in actual music. Just sayin.

Edit: OMG it's contagious...

Remind me to NEVER pick up or buy a Sukop bass, lest I fall into this horrible wankfest hell hole. Just flip me a Bird and I'll be perfectly happy.

@veebass ... @RedVee

Just saw an Orville TBird IV hanging up in Pete's Musicians Market on King Street in Newtown. Natural gloss finish, hardshell case @ $AUD1100-ish.

Youse knows youse wants it.

Thanks Kat,

This is Greg's one and a link to it on Ozbass.

I have played it. It is a beauty.
You would know it by the extra strap thing on the back that he put on.

I have thought about Greg's Orville a few times, but I have my sights set on a few other things. I will get one or two of the Epi Vintage Pros and I keep a little reserve gig money in a case a Pink Paisley MIJ Telecaster Bass comes up at a reasonable price.

OMG!, its all trebly and :poop:, no Fn' bass at all. Sounds like modem trouble.:sour:......:vomit:

Yes I do want it. I wonder if it's Gregs? (From Ozbass)
The hot water system won't be denied much longer tho. Life stuff - gets in the way sometimes.

My long-time saying related to this is; (when) "life rears it's ugly head" - my band just lost an awesome singer because her restaurant related job schedule switched and conflicted with rehearsals and weekend gigs... :bored: <not "bored", but frustrated... they don't have an thingy for that.

Im sorry if I offend anyone but I gotta be honest. I agree whole heartedly with JIO but Im gonna take this one further. Please brace yourselves Thunderbird Club, family, gang or cult. I Fn hate this "Sukop" thing. My Bird witnessed this video and the poor thing let out a sour note. IT NEVER LETS OUT A SOUR NOTE!........EVER!. I looked at my Bird and said "baby everything is gonna be fine once daddy kills off the spam were experiencing".
I find you offensive as hell! It doesn't have anything do with your opinion of that bass though:roflmao:

Honestly... I thought those basses were sexy as hell! I think you might be viewing them through Gibson colored glasses. Ya gotta get those notions out of your head! I wager you're feelings wouldn't be so strong if it was a Fodera, or Ken Smith, or one of the 99,000,000 other "Jazz Bass inspired" custom shop variants. This particular custom shop bass, happens to be a "T-bird inspired" design. It's as "outside the box" as the Mighty Thunderbird itself was, back in '63! I don't see one of them ending up in my collection... but I find them unique, beautiful, and certainly worth checking out if the opportunity were to knock!

Traditionalist or no, I find that Sukop Retro-Fire-thing looks like a shop accident. Looks like something took a piece out of it and it survived. Poor deformed thing, really an ugly rendering of a dark, fever-warped dream. The sound might be ok if someone would play a song or some kind of actual melody on it, but as suggested, it sounds kinda pinched in that modern, hippie-jazz, wankery Weather Station music kind of way. Hey, don't mind me...

Are there people who wait and practice all year just to go to NAMM and wank in a booth, hoping someone will put their antics up on YouTube?

But, do you judge or condemn those that do use and/or appreciate them? Do you consider them crap because it's not your thang? Granted, I don't know you at all outside this forum... but I feel safe in saying that's not your usual MO. I agree that these videos are NOT doing that company any favors. You could drop a box of spoons down a long staircase & get a better sound. TBPH... I don't like the super deep mega cutaway (I understand it... I just don't like it)... but otherwise, I think they're gorgeous. That has more to do with my appreciation for beautiful woodwork than anything else. I guess I look at it like a (presumably) high-end custom shop is tipping it's cap to the Thunderbird... and I'm down with that:thumbsup:

Dude there is a rule I live by and that is to absolutely never "judge or condemn those that do use and/or appreciate" things I dont like or understand. I could exist carefree and easy in any circumstance as long as I stick to my own likes and beliefs whilst refraining from criticism. Just because I despise something doesnt alter my take on its value. I will never pass judgement on other peoples beliefs and passions. I will however throw out my 2 cents every now and then. In Canadian funds thats like the equivalent of what?......minus 28 cents on the greenback?.

Yeah, I had broached the subject in conversation at home to no comment and had decided to make contact and suggest a course of action... and came home to the water heater news...
still, I'm keeping my powder dry and hoping I can swing something a little on.
I admired it at last years Sydney GTG but didn't have a go. :( I remember thinking the headstock was huge. :)
