From my experience with TUNE and many other Japanese builds, that Psychedelic Version of a T-Bird would, well, it would crush just about anything Gibson makes, quality-wise tone-wise otherwise.

Nothing personal, no disrespect for any Gibson/Epiphone fan-atics,, but I stand pat on that!

OK, proceed to bash....

Great, buy one and do a comparison...but being of better quality than Gibson or Epi is not that difficult.

There are people who disagree, but the particular pup/pre combination in that bass was, to my ears, dreadful. Even with controls maxxed out, it was never more than 'distant' sounding and was quieter than any passive bass I have played.

Never say never & all that... but I can't imagine myself pursuing an active Thunderbird. For me... the biggest attraction to the T-bird, is it's snarly earthy warm grit. Active pups, by design, remove that. I can't think of a scenario in which that would be desirable.

In the vast majority of builders, there is no comparison. I've spent time in Japan- Shibuya, Ebisu, etc. I was invited to SAGO.
The craftsmanship is beyond compare in MANY cases.

So, you're comparing a small boutique builder with Gibson? Why?
If they couldn't build a "better" bass with more attention to smaller detail and options what would be the point?
Further, since there have been quite a few iterations of Thunderbirds just from Gibson over the years, your statement that a copy would for instance "crush" a '64 Thunderbird II or a '67 Non Reverse has no basis in fact. Tone is at best, subjective.

Thanks, go ahead and buy one (if you can even get it in the country) and maybe report back.

No bashing, its quite nice actually but it reminds me of a counter top but dont take me too seriously because my Precision bass sports a pick guard that thinks its a turtle.
