While I'll don't get what their appeal is, they've built something. It has some staying power and a following many artists would envy if they knew how loyal their fan base is.

Definitely that. They made an actual career out of it. Pretty middle class life by the sounds of it, drives an older car(with a jugalo sticker, lol) and apparently decent insurance to pay for her high end prosthodontist to do the work. Lives in a suburban neighborhood.

Beats having a day job.

So I just got back from the Joe Bonamassa concert at SPAC, and you Thunderbird fan(atic)s will be happy to know that Michael Rhodes was playing a Thunderbird for part of the show. Absolutely massive sounding through his Ashdown rig. I was seated on the balcony, and my potato-quality smartphone camera couldn't snap a good photo of it. He also played his normal blonde/maple Fender P bass, a black/rosewood Fender P, and a sunburst Jazz Bass that looked like it had T-Bird pickups in it. Great show all around.

Nice! Been doing the trim in my new house, it's all oak, along with the doors.

It's got a real nice grain pattern and it's pretty cheap around here, for hardwood. Ash was my second choice, because of the price.

Anyone seen a walnut top on a Thunderbird?

Not on a T-bird but I have seen plenty of custom basses made of walnut, they're beautiful. The "walnut" Gibson bird is mostly mahogany, nice but not as nice.

Got to play my first vintage thunderbird today! A beautiful bicentennial with headstock repair and all. I didn't get a chance to plug it in but it played like a dream and resonated like no other (probably helped that it was HUGE). Much lighter than I was expecting and very comfortable. Needless to say I fell in love and need to start up a Thunderbird fund

Yeah I've seen a few, Rickenbacker jump to mind.
It was just a thought, maybe a Thunderbird like a Rolls-Royce dashboard isn't the way to go.

Random fact - in the 80s I used to share rehearsal space with a metal guitarist who was supposedly the son of Gene Pitney, conceived during a tour of NZ in 1965...

I thought they were just stained walnut colour?

I'd say that the rent would be huge yeah.
(Basically across the road from the Hilton in Sydney CBD for our non Oz viewers).
Be a shame though - there has been a music shop there for as long as I can remember - it was Palings when I was a teenager. Bit of a Sydney institution, Palings like Gowings and Dymocks.

They had a store near Parramatta at some stage, not sure if it still exists.
