True story ... after unpacking the NR41, attaching the neck and just beginning to get the slack off the strings, I had a mild panic as the strings were lying flat along the fretboard. By the time everything was getting up to pitch it was all fine. If you like low action it's the only way to fly.

I have a Loar acoustic archtop that is a bear to adjust. I don't know if the truss rod is bottomed out almost, or what's going on with it. But, it was a pain to set up when I first got it. I don't know what the original owner did to it, because it's clearly got a lot of use on it. Funny thing is that the frets are great. There's a small hump in the neck down toward the bottom of the neck, but that's almost impossible to reach accurately anyway, so I don't much care.With bass, it seems there's more emphasis on detuning before adjusting the truss rod, than with guitar. Though I've only worked on a couple of 'em now, I'll admit that the adjustments under tension require more elbow grease. The only time I've gotten into trouble, was on a crappy Strat with a "bullet" truss rod that appeared to have been made out of some cheap crappy alloy, that had been partially mangled before I ever stuck a wrench in 'er. Ever since then, I've been careful to make sure I have exactly the right wrench that is in good condition, and that it seats, deeply and securely into the adjustment fitting before applying gentle yet firm pressure. I'll certainly be adhering to y'all's recommendations to slack the strings moving forward though

one of the older fat neck ones I assume? Year? Color? Notice a build quality difference over the more recent Chinese one you had? The white 06 I was considering at the same time I saw the classic pro I wound up.getting appeared to have the wide neck, but I never saw it in person. I prefer the slim.necks, but can play either.
Woo hoo! I don't feel as bad about the numerous and deep chips and dents and finish cracks anymore because I got a similarly abused old style (rectangle) epiphone hard case with mine. An no fear of putting any chips or scratches in the bass. It is liberating! Rock on.
Those pickups are pretty sweet huh?

We're playing at the U.S. equivalent of a greasy pub in the video, I still remember that show.
It's still on our set list all these years later, usually as the opener of the second set, our keyboard player does a bit of "Scotland the Free" as the intro.
It was supposed to say "Great" poopie iPhone changed it to greasy

As for build quality comparison... that's harder than it sounds. The Goth had that neck issue I talked about, but blame could be placed in a number of different places, so I won't just blindly dump it on general build quality. The 2 were so different. It would be easier If they were both Goths, or both TB IVs. I guess the short answer would be, "No. There were generally no appreciable build quality differences between the two". This price point doesn't warrant intense scrutiny

True, also previous owner use/abuse (truss rod adjuster nut) and the fact that it was a 2nd might have had much to do with the differences between my former tbiv and my goth. Fretwork was certainly better on the 06 goth vs the 2015 tbiv.Yep! The neck is why it's here. It's an '08.

When making truss adjustments the Korean was nicer to work on than the Chinese, which needed to have the neck flexed back, whereas the goth could take adjustments directly. The nut turned much more smoothly. No complaints when I adjusted my 2013 indo classic pro either.
I must have missed your goth neck issues in one of the 2 recent times where I became hopelessly behind and had to abandon hopes of catching up.
I'm surprised to learn that the fretwork was better on the '06 than it was on the '15. You'd think that advancements in technology would've helped refine the process.
I was happy enough with the workaround for the less than straight neck on the Goth. The reason I traded it for this TB IV was the neck size. There was no "workaround" for that issue
