Dude Im sorry to hear about your loss and I totally would if I could to help you out, maybe you can pick one up again at a later date. Now that you know how you feel about the SG bass you might look for a decent used one at a lower price next time so you can get going on the mods immediately.
Ughhh. Sadly I think that’s one of mine that your PG person used. And you’re right, the line cutting is not as good as the ones I’ve sold before. My vinyl guy effed these up and I’m going to stop selling them until I get him to redo them.
The fact that it’s peeling up means it wasn’t put down well. The surface should be oil and lint free and the vinyl graphic has to be pressed down with a lot of pressure since the adhesive is pressure sensitive. Sorry this happened to you, Ken.
If one of these other colors will serve you, I’ll send you one tomorrow gratis for your trouble.
Starting at the top left and going down, shiny gold, dull gold and shiny silver. Then top right and going down, dull silver, red and blue.
Alright, now I'm rather regretting not jumping on a pre-order. That new VP in white looks real good, even better with some covers on. I think it's been discussed previously, but they have slightly different pickup positioning to the 60s and 70s birds, yeah? How much of a difference? Is that in part due to the birdge being moved to accommodate better intonation?
Alright, I'll try that route out first, that also leaves an opening in my collection for a proper Tele bass down the road. Interesting to know the Greco pickup doesn't have that many winds, I figured it was just overwound, but then again I don't think I've ever played another bass with ceramic pickups, just Alnico, so that likely accounts for the difference. Yes, clarity is what I feel the Greco is lacking a bit. Not so say I don't like the sound, I do and will definitely keep the pickup for when the need arises, but it tends to lack the definition I've become used to with my Precision. It should be noted though, that most other precisions I've played don't sound like mine either, the '62/Original pickup is pretty unique, very airy and crunchy, not very bottom heavy, with pretty pronounced mids and treble. Especially on chords, the notes really ring out clearly. Closer to that is the goal, so I'll have to give the '63 a shot, it's hard finding good samples of that version of the Thunderbucker.

Well... at least you know you like that model, and it's neither scarce nor particularly expensive to replace when you're ready...
Carlo - yes, I think the Bart's are the same size as EMG35 series pups, satin black would work, January is probably not a big problem since the trim rings really don't effect the useability of the bass. I'll PM you with the Bartolini size information along with the Goth raised center section dimensions and we can go from there. Thanks.

Larry, that’s very kind of you to offer, but whether it’s one of yours or not, it’s 100% on the luthier. She’s the one who, according to her, sourced and applied the logo after receiving the pickguard, even though she told me initially that the pickguard supplier made them with the logo. And she charged me a lot extra. She should have seen that the logo wasn’t done well and either not charged me or redone it before I even saw it. I consider that whole transaction a severe lack of integrity on her part. I could say something after the fact but it’s not a ton of money so I’m just eating the loss and moving on. Again, thank you very much for the offer, but even if it IS yours, this is not your fault at all; it’s the unethical luthier.

With fatter wire you can use fewer winds to get higher output but you lose clarity compared to more winds of thinner wire..
I'm familiar with the '62 P pickup, at least Seymour Duncan's Antiquity (II version of it. I have one in a Duck Dunn clone I built. I like it a lot.

Oh man I'm in love with Thunderbird, where were I all this years, I don't understand people complaining about it. So much raw power with grit and attitude. It's covering sonic space same as Pbass, maybe even better for me. Anyway I made this bass comparison yesterday, hope you like it, sorry for sloppy playing but simply I don't care and I was always like that.

People don’t like things they don’t understand. They don’t understand how a bass that wasn’t designed by Leo Fender, and so oddly shaped, could sound so good.
Also people don’t understand that two humbuckers will react differently to amp EQ, than a single split-coil, or two single coils.
Glad you are able to understand, and joined the right side… I mean Bird side
