Thunderbird Club

That’s the truth. If someone says they love an SVT stack, someone else says they’re too heavy. You know, you aren’t required to carry someone else rig to their gigs, right? If they don’t mind, what’s it to you?

The P bass stuff going on is comedy gold. Apparently, if you like em, you’re part of a cult. Then someone else says they’re the only bass anyone should ever own...with flats and tort, of course.

I guess I’ve never been that precious about gear.

A buddy of mine last night who should know better came up to say how much he loved my T Bird. He also said he wasn’t sure he could handle the weight and neck dive, which is why his RD Artist is up for sale. I told him my bass was under 9lbs and doesn’t neck dive and he seemed astounded. And this ain’t some random joker at a bar. Dude has toured the world with Sturgil Simpson and Margo Price and has been on all the late night tv shows. He’s a fairly successful pro
People are just fvcked.

I think one of my TBird's is under 8lbs! I've never held a Gibson Thunderbird IV that felt heavy, I think my Jazz is heavier than both of mine, and I never even found that to be heavy! My white Thunderbird has a 1-5/8" neck at the nut, which seems to be an 1/8" bigger than the average (modern) TBird IV, and it only has a hint of neck descent, I wouldn't even call it neck dive... with the bass sitting fairly high for when I'm sitting. When I stand, I have the bass lower, and the decent isn't noticeable unless I jump around like an idiot.
My Epi EB-3 on the other hand, must have an Earth magnet in the headstock!

I venture into gen pop about 1 % of the time I log in here. I quickly glance at new threads and sometimes throw my 2 cents worth in and run out the door quickly. This is the only place where you can talk about anything and never see stupidity break out, in the rare event we will get a straggler wonder in and troll us but thankfully it is very rare. Having said that Im sure the mention of "troll" just popped up on some perverts radar and he is on his way. Quick lock the door and inform our Queen to ready the people for battle mode!.

I’ve always wondered how some folks get so much pleasure out of being a total drag. There’s one guy on TB who’s screenname even suggests he’s trying to be anonymous, no profile info, etc. all he does is target threads for things he doesn’t like, comes in, and pees on everyone’s Cheerios. Been doing it the entire time I’ve been on TB. I guess I just don’t see the allure

By the way my Bird dives like a u-boat, but I'm trying multiple different strap button locations. I'm not one of those who thinks a bass is more than it is, so my Pro IV is my Guinea pig until I receive my VP.
If you can make an active Pro IV work for you, you are doing far better than I could with one. The occasional 'Bird does dive. I'm not sure why that is, but it's a fact. Most don't, so with any luck your need to experiment with button placement will be over when you get your VP. All goes to show that we are all different, and so are our Thunderbirds.

That's why I kinda enjoy wandering into the GP sometimes. I like playing a Thunderbird. I prefer playing it through hugely heavy old equipment that's *gasp* solid state! No class D, no tubes, no salami stuck to the front of my bass. There's freedom to be an equal opportunity crank when pretty much everyone else thinks you are doing it wrong.

Except that I own a P with flats. It's a keeper, at least for now, just because.

Me too :)

I was guilty of thinking all birds neck dive, because they kinda look like they should. Mine just doesn’t. I also tried that T Bird Studio the other day. Not heavy, no neck dive. We’ll see if I stumble on to some exceptions when I obtain a couple more.

That means you have to do the N+1 thing until you find one that dives. In the interest of science.

It takes a real antisocial lamer to put that kind of effort into the cause of making others miserable. Im glad I dont possess those qualities. I had a picture of my P bass posted and it had a Balkenkreuz decal and some clown kept pushing me to tell him what it meant to me insinuating I was a Nazi. After pointing out the famous musicians of the world that have used the same decal and a few others chiming in to explain the history of the symbol to the clown he still wasnt satisfied. Sent me some brutal mail witch I forwarded to headquarters and now the clown is banned. Really?!. Having the ignore option is awesome too.

I find it pretty easy to ignore people without even blocking their messages. It's the internet. Really, we are all a bunch of clowns who ought to be doing something better with our time. But, I really like 'Bird people. Online, and when I meet them in person. My wife thinks I like everybody. She might be right. Being a crank can be fun, but it's only in fun. People who get all bent out of shape to the point of sending hate mail really need to reexamine their priorities.

This is my only means of social media, I had a Facebook profile full of people I knew that didnt offer the comfort I get here. Im not sure if thats sad or what. I do have a life that I take full advantage of because apparently I only get one chance at it but when Im free and not looking to keep moving physically I find comfort in being right here with all of you.

We have asked for a review unit, but nothing yet... :sour:
@tombowlus , can't wait to see your preview!

Here's my non professional take...
The new Eppi VP Bird is built, plays, feels and sounds as good as any Gibson TBird released in the last 20 years and many would argue it looks even better. At a measly $600 street price it's a "must have" in any TBird collection.

Disclaimer: I own and regularly play a Gibson Gold Bullion Anniversary Thunderbird, the new Ebony Epiphone Thunderbird VP, and a heavily modified 2017 Epiphone Goth that is now a two band active bass with an Aggie OPB-2 and Bartolini pups.

It takes a real antisocial lamer to put that kind of effort into the cause of making others miserable.

And yet there are still morris dancers and banjo players... Some are naturally antisocial lamers.

Being a crank can be fun, but it's only in fun.

Get off my lawn! Damn kids...

The trick with Gen Pop is not to go into 'this vs that' threads, or 'What's your opinion' threads. Staying out of the 'Basses' sub-forum is a good idea too (with here being the obvious exception).

I try to limit myself to threads that someone is having a problem with their amp or bass, basically just trying to learn what to do if I ever come across that problem.

At some point try a '76, they're a very different 'Bird from a Post '88. I'm not a small person, when I play mine it always seems that I'm playing a "big" bass, the large headstock and extra metal on the bridge and pickup covers seems to just add to the effect. They're not always held in high regard by some purists, mostly due the pickups being of a completely different design than the '60s type, that has some pretty wild variations in output due to less than great QC from Gibson at that point, though the woodwork is in general pretty good.
