Thunderbird Club

A '15 Thunderbird has the same electronics as a 2013 or 2014 EB. The new version of the EB has those pickups and coil taps as well. The pickups look like Stingray pickups, and it came from the factory with a Babicz bridge. The pickups are coil tapped with mini-toggle switches below the volume knobs. It doesn't look much different from any other post-1989 'Bird with the exception of the pickups and switches. That's not enough for the average person to notice, but different enough that you would notice.

You probably need one. ;)

Haha! It’s only in the winter time that I make gear changes and fuss with stuff. The rest of the year it only crosses my mind if something breaks :)

Somebody say 'Coliseums?'

I'm the curious sort when it comes to music so when someone here mentions their band I go search it out to see what they're all about musically.

I wasn't able to find anything PBwN recorded but I did find a guy that says he's influenced by your work.

That's cool that you've influenced another musician.

So, how soon should I expect the NSA to be knocking on my door having Googled, "Planting Bombs w/Nita", Mike?

So far my favorite TBird club member doing originals has to be @hairypete1138. I spent some time on his SoundCloud awhile back and really liked what his band was laying down.

Pete's band, Tin Dog is worth a listen in case you missed it.

Tin Dog

So if you're SoundCloud or YouTube famous, post up a link, I'm in that sort of mood where new music is what I need!
WOW!!! This is cool Lar! This guy's GOTTA be from the Kalamazoo area. The Sinatras were a friggin' AMAZING band! Kinda Husker Du-like but not as dark. I guess you could call it "Underground Speed-Pop" if you needed a name for their style. They got a little notoriety... did a lotta "dues-payin' van touring", and even made it across the pond for a few UK dates. I still have their first local release on cassette (yyyeeesss... I said "cassette"... it was done back in the late eighties). They did the the most badass version of the Sesame Street theme song that I've ever heard! The Sleestacks were another K-zoo band. I only saw them a few times, but they stuck out from the crowd fer sher! There were like 6 or 7 guys & girls in the band, and they looked like the cast of "Revenge of the Nerds". They would frequently switch between different instruments (including horns), and incorporated theatrics between, and during songs. When ya hear that... it's really easy to get an idea in your head of what it was like. I obviously have no idea what idea popped into each of your heads... but it's a safe bet that the show was nothing like it! Whatever they did... they did it very well! They could keep the attention and earn the adulation of a room full of leather-clad, spike-haired, Metal Heads, Ska-Punks, and cocktail shakers! In a different time, I believe both of those bands could've been HUGE! Sadly... "Planting Bombs with Nita" never played a gig. Opportunities knocked, but went unanswered, primarily due to the tremendous hassle of moving gear. This was one of the bands I was in with my ex-brother-in-law who had the pair of 1000 watt Hartke rigs run in stereo. The guitar player ran his Strats & Rics through like 15-20 stompboxes, into a Fender Twin & a Roland JC-120 in stereo. My drumset at the time was fairly "normal"... but I had this massive blanket of cymbals over everything. Seriously... everything from a 6" splash, up to a 26" ride. It was ridiculous! Our sound was kinda "Ride" meets, "My Bloody Valentine", meets "Pink Floyd", meets "Primus". We lived in a band house in the WMU student ghetto (if you're from Kalamazoo & heard me say, "near Oak & Vine"... you'd most likely say, "REALLY? I was just partyin' there last night!"). Anyhooooo... the neighbors in the house next door (also a band house) came & checked us out a couple times. Then they brought a couple friends... the THEY brought a couple friends, and so on. The murmurs got out... the practices became some sorta unofficial "event"... and we wound up making local press and became a common name in the conversations of area musicians. We kinda became a "thing" without ever hauling our gear outa the basement even one time! I wanted to play out... especially when opportunities started literally walking through our door... but the other guys didn't wanna haul gear, and seemed to enjoy their "buzzword" status. One day, I found myself not very happy when I looked in the mirror. I had become the kind of pretentious @$$hole that I'd always hated. I moved out of the band house, found a nice Blues combo called "Loaded Dice", and went back home to the music of my heart. I'm very proud of the music I made with PBwN. It's unique, original, and I believe would stand the test of time. Coulda been sup'm if we hadda been better go-getters. :rollno:

I gotta bunch of PBwN stuff on CDs... I'd hafta take some time to find them & go through them to see if I can find anything remotely complete. A lot of it is broken tracks & incomplete crap.

(sorry for the novel)

What strings did you put on it? You may have said, but I don't remember.

Just what it came with, they're Rounds, probably Sttainless, they sound nice. My efforts to eq it so far just haven't sounded good (to my ears) when playing with the band, very mid, hi mid, treble present with less lo mis and bass than I like. For one rehearsal I A/B'd the '89 and the Epi on the same setting - the '89 was way better to my ears. So, better to start afresh and give it a space on the Line6 all it's own.

Whoa!!! Still have em all? I take it you like em?

This guy owns those.

I started playing a single Coliseum Bass head / 2-15 with EV SRO cab around '74 after I straight traded a Blueline 1st gen SVT head for it. By late '77 I was playing 3 heads, a Lead, the original Bass, and a Slave through three SVT 8-10 Fridges with my first '77 BiCen. Helluva sound!

fUWsI5r.jpg

Gradually traded them away, the Lead for a Sawsall! :bawl:. Almost pulled the trigger on one a few times recently but I have enough amps. Basses OTOH...

My curiosity is level is through the roof, and I gotta how good my guessing game is. Is that box for a Holley 4150, 650cfm with vacuum secondary?
Very possibly. Jon is among many other things a car nut, mostly Fords. His day job is as a Delta jet tech but he can repair/mod anything from Marshalls to vintage Nintendos. Plus play drums and guitar as well as he plays bass. He's 20 in that video.

Wow! Being 20 and already working for Delta (unless he was a just a big fan of Delta, and was wearing one of their shirts at the time) is quite an accomplishment!
I sprayed WD-40 on a door hinge once and said it's fixed :roflmao:
He's one talented dude, that's for sure...

This is my only means of social media, I had a Facebook profile full of people I knew that didnt offer the comfort I get here. Im not sure if thats sad or what. I do have a life that I take full advantage of because apparently I only get one chance at it but when Im free and not looking to keep moving physically I find comfort in being right here with all of you.

Amen to that, brother! :)

The only PJ's I want go on my legs at night........ and my first bass, but I don't play it as often as anything else.
As i’ve mentioned before, my first bass was a Hohner Marlin P-clone. I loved it, although it was heavy as hell. That got converted into a 5 string and is currently on loan to a mate (has been for the past 6 years). The only other FSO i’ve Owned was a Squier Standard Series P-bass special with PJ pups and a J neck. That was a really lovely bass to play, and offered something different to the OLP stingray 5 string that was my go-to bass at the time. I actually miss that bass occasionally, but it got traded when I got my Tokai bird, so it went for a good cause. The OLP was traded along with my El Capitan acoustic when I bought my classic pro in 2016. I’m now all-Bird all the time!

HiWatt Uber Alles!

I have a Demeter first gen 201 Preamp with Jensen DI . "201" because Jim based it on one of Townshend's HiWatts that was in for repair when he worked at Hollywood Sound. That combined with an SVP 1500 will cover any need I have for volume. 800 watts per side down to 2 ohms or 1600 bridged.

Or this combo...

We had one a while back, what a sh!t stirrer he was at that. Punks!!!!!!!!!

I remember him too well:rollno:

That individual is one of the two in my block list.

With the exception of using it to message a few people, I only go on Facebook, at most, a couple times a month. People on there are really fvcked, and can talk about anything they want, I don't need to know that you just ate a poutine!

 yeah right, I dont need to be updated every time a person eats freshly fried bannock with a side of pemmican either.

Do not have a Facebook account, neither any of those others, with the exception of Twatter and that's another of my heads, so to speak. Bannock sounds good though...

Not sure i can hang with that quote/question, whatever though.

That quotation sounds like the sort of thing someone who doesn't know Thunderbirds would say.
