Thunderbird Club

That might take a while. I'm only familiar with RS66 stainless strings, not nickels, but the Smiths went on with slightly less zing than the RS66 stainless (nickel vs stainless), but have retained 90% of their tone since then. Even just playing around the house, the RS66s would be well dead by now.
I'll be trying a set. I'm still pretty happy with Black Beauties and Cobalt flats, but I have to try everything once. If it doesn't kill me, that means try it again to see what happens.

Anyone here live in San Francisco?

I love SF except for the second week of January. Of course, this year I have to go (on relatively short notice - reasonable notice for 2nd week of January is 6 months).

What is wrong with SF the second week of January? It is the JP Morgan biotech conference so every biotech company in the world is there. So, trying to book a hotel a few weeks out (if there is a room available) means prices in the $1500-4000 per night range. If you want a restaurant reservation, you better be making it now.

What do the locals think? Do you even notice?

Yep, Crazy. They sure do sound good though :)

Ha! I love the look of those old ACC cabs, but I prefer to roll my own. A sealed 218 with a couple mid drivers is about the finest thing thing I’ve ever heard for what I like
A 218!?!?! Dayum! That sounds like a beast. And a whole lot of fun. Front firing or some kind of angles?

Time to make a zillion dollars to blow on bass cabinets and have a big warehouse for bass cabinet insanity. You will be the first to know when that happens.

STOP WATCHING ME THROUGH MY COMPUTER! That's it, I'm putting the post-it over the camera again.

I told my wife that if the cover band I'm currently playing bass guitar in ever dissolves, and it will someday, then it will be time to learn to play metal or some other much heavier music. Your recording just reinforces that idea. It would be a whole lot of fun to do that kind of thing.

Downtuned fretless bird?

There's a thought. I was thinking about putting a drop tuner on it anyway. Eventually, every 'Bird I own may have one of those. Maybe the EB, too. The EB-2 gets spared, because it just doesn't do that kind of thing.
What's the headstock shape and tuners that are on the EB, IIRC there's a couple different styles?
My Epi EB-3 has vintage style tuners, Hipshot said they can't make a direct drop in d tuner for it due to space on the headstock. Would have to go Ultralites.... as I say this I recall that you don't mind drilling

I'd drill holes in a Stradivarius if I got a wild hair up over something. I'm a complete cretin that way. The EB has a 2+2 headstock. The tuners are standard issue Gibson Grovers with a screw centered below the post. So Ultralites would be a direct fit. I haven't looked into whether they make an Ultralite drop tuner. Sounds like you already did and they do.

Its so much fun, Im glad you take interest in pursuing a heavier direction at some point in time. Having a lineup of eclectic, diverse and mature players with the same vision and understanding is key to creating something outside the broad spectrum. Its hard to make a genre sound different for the sake of trying to sound different but with the right lineup it can really fall into place naturally. What could be way awesome is if you play Metal on an upright.

I haven't looked into if the Ultralites are a direct fit for standard Gibson Grovers, but if you just wanna drop in a d tuner, the GB7 is a direct fit
