The stuff I play now has very little in common. Well, aside from having a mediocre bass player. Nothing I do on bass or drums is much like metal. Then again, one band in particular is next to impossible to categorize. We do everything from straight ahead rockabilly to Amy Winehouse songs turned inside out with a bowed bass, no synth, and a noisy guitar. We were talking about twisting a Metallica song into what we do. So, there's the start to a metal career. Its so much fun, Im glad you take interest in pursuing a heavier direction at some point in time. Having a lineup of eclectic, diverse and mature players with the same vision and understanding is key to creating something outside the broad spectrum. Its hard to make a genre sound different for the sake of trying to sound different but with the right lineup it can really fall into place naturally. What could be way awesome is if you play Metal on an upright.![]()
As far as a downtuned, 'Bird shaped upright, I might have to hang out with the luthiers for a long time before figuring out how to do that. It would be pretty outrageous. It would also have to be Cadillac Burgandy Mist. Just because a metallic pink bass shaped like that and that sounds like that would be even harder for a normal person to comprehend.
