I was thinking about the olden days Vince.
Looks like @dukeorock 's next upright! Has his name right on it!
It's easy to see that it's a quality instrument. There's no question about that.
The original owner of this bass, is a personal acquaintance of one of the owners of the bass shop, who has consigned a large number of basses through them, and according to the gentleman I spoke with, everything he's brought them has been immaculately cared for. The only thing I can think of, is that maybe something happened in transit. Maybe the excessive cold or something... I dunno...
Perhaps you forgot you're talking to a 21 year old. The "olden days" for him, is anything pre-2005!

Not your problem, get a refund or at the least a credit.
That's why they get dealer prices, so they're covered when things like this happen
Keep up with the times, 465W tube amps running 2Ω is the new thing!
But if you wanna stick with the olden days, an ACC 370, solid state, will work great at 2Ω's
. They have their own monster 18" cabs though
Some of my gear says otherwisePerhaps you forgot you're talking to a 21 year old. The "olden days" for him, is anything older than a 2005 model!

Speaking of low action... it jumped again on my 'Ray yesterday. I've spoken with the guys at the Bass Shop. I gotta send it back to them. If they can't figure it out, they're gonna send it to Music Man. It's great they're ready, willing, and able to help me out... but it sux cuz I could be without it for months
Having known Chad Beeler and dealt with him personally several times over a decade, I'd say your bass is in very good hands.

Before I even tried this amp, I went back to your PM and started with those settings. Great starting place! I backed the gain down a bit and brought the treble up.
Ha! I have seen those before. I’ll stick with my Blast Cult for now

Now yer talkin’! That’s Engle’s take on the 1940’s Kay ‘Swingmaster’ bass. If that’s the bass I’m thinking, I’d snap it up in a second. Very cool bass!

I've spoken to him twice. Definitely a stand up guy IMO. But there's no reason Fix has to be without that bass for months and possibly depend on EB to come up with a solution. It's his main bass...but even if it wasn't he should just be able to take it to someone local for a diagnosis and go from there. Again, just my opinion.

What is ass fruit? I don't think I have ever had that. Is it like Durian?

So, if anyone is interested, I gave the Traynor a good workout with Prayer Flags today.
Man, I missed having an all tube rig. Goes a long way toward explaining why I never hang on to OD pedals. They just can’t emulate this, for my tastes. Not that I think the Traynor is faultless, but it is cool for what it does. Harlowe (guitar player) loved it, but Paul (steel player) said, though he liked it, he was still getting used to how different it sounds from any of my other rigs. I couldn’t get anything resembling ‘clean,’ but in this band, that’s not a terrible thing. It was a big, messy rock bass sound. Distorted (very), but sounded cool and aggressive.
Pros- super aggressive sounding and gets really loud. I never took the master above noon.
Cons- at least with just the single, 8 ohm 1822, I found it a bit shy in the lows. Certainly useable, but I’d say this amp is a bit light in the lows. I had an idea, so when I got home, I tried this...
Empress ParaEQ. First I tried putting it in the fx loop, but that was really distorted, so I ran it inline. Better. Boosted a little at around 110hz and maybe 300ish. Warmed up quite a bit, but I won’t know for sure what I think until I try it with a band.
Then I tried this...
From my Reiner 6SL7 tube pre, into the amp in on the Traynor (which bypasses the Traynors gain and eq). Sounded MASSIVE. The low end got considerably bigger and cushier and I have a whole lot more clean headroom. I kinda missed the edgy, grindy thing the 12ax7’s do a little, but really it’s a huge improvement overall. The Reiner has a super nice Jenson DI, which is very FOH friendly (we’ll do a mic and DI at the gig). To be fair, it’s a pretty darn expensive, boutique pre, but mated with a tube power section, it’s very impressive

I'm not surprised about the Reiner into the
Power in on the Traynor. Makes total sense.

I do like it when you use my femme nom de plume. Yes, I've left the stock strings on the VP for the time being. It's been interesting getting "dialed in", alone, upstairs in the practice room I can easily get really nice tones at several different settings, however, when I play through the show rig downstairs with the band I haven't been quite as happy with how it's sitting in the mix. I spent a couple hours with it yesterday and I think I have something good to try with the band at Monday's rehearsal.
