AC/DC

I’ve heard lots of complaints that every AC/DC song sounds the same. But I really like that song.

PSA: The Epiphone Thunderbird Vintage PRO does not fit in Gator Transit Bass gigbags, even with the top and bottom extra padding removed. Is there a decent gig bag that definitely fits this particular bass?

Is the Transit bag the same size as the ProGo? The ProGo has no top padding to remove. I’ve bumped the top in the subway more times than I can remember, but it’s the case’s hard structure that protects it initially. Great padding inside of course.

The Lucas vacuum cleaner. Only thing they ever made that didn't suck.

I wish I could click the Like button a 1000 times.

As for the single pickup, I do appreciate the sound preference for some. It’s just the visual imbalance without the bridge pickup I can’t get past. Plus I always anchor my thumb off the bridge pickup.

I think the Spector boys got the hint and decided to back off for self preservation reasons.

Just kidding, they really are a great bunch over there as well, not quite as tight knit as this family but then again they are representing an entire Spector company line up vs just one instrument.

It is a risk both ways - keep doing the same thing over and over and your fans get bored and abandon you. Evolve musically and your fans will say you sold out and abandon you. Choose a path and figure out how to keep and/or add fans.

I do like it when you use my femme nom de plume. Yes, I've left the stock strings on the VP for the time being. It's been interesting getting "dialed in", alone, upstairs in the practice room I can easily get really nice tones at several different settings, however, when I play through the show rig downstairs with the band I haven't been quite as happy with how it's sitting in the mix. I spent a couple hours with it yesterday and I think I have something good to try with the band at Monday's rehearsal.

I specialize in redneck street translations for all languages... for the non French speakers out there "Femme nom de plume" is Roughly translated as "Females without feathers". Although I have no idea what that has to do with your Veronica pen name.

As for the other bird without feathers (your Eppi VP) - I'm loving the sound of mine even with the overly bright stock strings. In solo practice it sounds freaking amazing! In a mix I'm fighting it a bit more than I want. It wants to jump way forward in the mix vs my normal style of laying back a bit. I'm thinking a string change to something more subtle is needed. Just looking for others opinions on this specific bass. TBer Johnk went with DAddario SS Rounds, which I suspect would not take me in the direction I'd like to go. Keep us posted if you make a string change on this one.

I think some Ken Smith Rockmasters are what it really wants, a bit less zingy and less hi mid forward that the stock strings (Which I don't dislike BTW).
My came with a reasonable set up, but I may look into dropping it a little, I do like the bass quite a lot but for me it's neck is a very different animal than any of my Gibsons.

Interesting. I would have thought the stainless Rockmasters would be as bright or brighter than the stock strings.

My experience with them is that they're a bit less bright than say, DR Stainless. Couldn't say who makes the stock strings.

They are a good bunch. But we seem to do pretty well backing a lot of other Gibson products, even if we don't care for how the company is run.

Decent stock strings, crying for a set of Rotosounds. Set mine up got the action nice and low.

So, last night before my antics here. I was practicing with only the neck pick up on the Bird. First time I've tried that since having it. Eq'd it up a bit with the B7.
Now I see what all the rave is about with the single p'up versions. Just a killer tone!!! The likes of which I've never heard before. I can get used to this real quick.

They kept a relatively small cult following, and held their cred in the larger venue. That's what you get for sticking to your guns. I like that better than the notion of fame and wealth. I have neither, but prefer the integrity choice.
