Pretty train crazy of late (when am I not! ) , here's something I just finished. From 1967, used to transport tires for Firestone, I scratch built the door for this model as they weren't available. Love the non traditional colors from the '60s especially as they weathered in the '70s.

I ended up getting caught up n plastic scale modeling. Primarily military afv's. You did some great weathering on that little number.

With as much as you play, and the variety of instruments you do it on... I imagine you have hands like a 17th century construction worker, so this may not have any baring on the situation... but the Cobalts, in a addition to being the brightest string I've ever heard, are also the most abrasive on your fingers, and bring forth a lot of finger noise. If you want long lasting bright strings... 'at'll do 'er

I had Cobalts on the Drake...wait, still do, but they’re a bit worn out now. Don’t remember any finger issues, but yeah, my hands are always pretty shredded from upright anyway

I wonder if you’ve come across Rich Clarke - a friend of our family who lives in Seattle and is hugely into building model trains and layouts.

Kinda curious. I had assumed all the 2k ‘Birds were fairly similar, but I’ve only owned two. One of which I’ve had for less than 24 hours

Are there qualities one could consistently apply to each year? I love both my ‘14 and my ‘02 and it ain’t like they’re light years apart, but they are different

After playing a bunch on the ‘02 tonight. It pretty much rules. Super nice bass!

That’s great. I’d love to hear more thoughts between the two. Considering the pickguard does seem to end at different spots by the pickups, is the difference pickguard size, pickup placement, body size, something else?

I think inconsistency (to a certain small degree) is what you should expect, Gibson has always been a bit of a job shop.

Vince pretty much spotted everything within seconds!

First the pickguards- they look the same size to me, but the ‘02 is just placed more forward on the body. Now the ‘14 looks like it was placed ‘wrong,’ but I hadn’t given that a single thought until I saw these two side by side. The offwhite pg on the ‘02 looks considerably cooler to me as well.

Another thing Vince spotted was the neck on the ‘14 is slightly wider around the 15th-16th fret area. I got out a tape measure to confirm that it wasn’t an optical illusion of some sort. Nope, Vince nailed it. The ‘14 is about 1/16” wider. I would’ve never known

The ‘14 has zero neck dive and the ‘02 has slight neck dive...not too tricky to figure out why...

Not sure why that pic came out so blurry...

When I first played the ‘02 I could’ve sworn the fingerboard was a tiny bit flatter, but not really so much. They just feels ever so slightly different from one another. Blindfolded, I’d be hard pressed to tell you which is which in that regard.

I’d have to string em both up fresh with the same strings to say this with total accuracy, but their inherent tonal characteristics seem pretty different to me. The ‘02 is clearer and punchier sounding, but with slightly less low end (slightly). The ‘14 is a bit mushier and more tubby. Nothing huge, but there’s a noticeable difference.

That’s about all I got so far

Now you see, I couldn't give two hoots about the lettering on the PSU being upside down ... but the power cables being loose like that does really bother me.

The bridge looks a little further back on the 2002.

Is the 2002 1-5/8" at the nut?
