Thunderbird Club

I think Kat is pretty much sorted. I just got a yba 200-2 and am having a couple issues. Thinking I’m just gonna drop it off with a tech :)

Turned mine up a bit before. Bearing in mind I run the gain a bit higher than you, it was unquestionably overdriven but never mushy. Room rattled a bit but. I'm reasonably heavy handed as well, with a Gibson XH pick. Been a while since I gave myself blisters though, maybe that's the difference.

Thanks @Miles_ONeal, the thought is appreciated.

I am thinking I'd like a Thunderbird in a custom color. I was looking at building a bird, but I'm not up to cutting the body. None of the major players seem to make Tbird bodies. All I could find was an entire kit from DIYGuitars. It was around $200. That price point makes me nervous.
Does anyone have a source for Tbird bodies, or any experience with DIYGuitars?
TIA,
Miles

For DIY... I stumbled on to a place that does a body and neck. Out of Las Vegas. Can’t find it now. Maybe Carlo @Dadagoboi from Cataldo does that, but I’m not sure. He’s done awesome complete basses for a few folks in this club. Check out Cataldo bass online. Amazing stuff!

Check Brad Lowe out, I'm trying to remember his username here....... Beetl maybe?
Anywho, our member SilkkSmoove used one of his Thunderbird bodies for a build that he posted here around October 2017 or so, very nice body!

Begging your pardon, your Highness. I'm sure it was just a typo… but I believe his name is SilkySmoove (lest our friend try to contact him...)

Well done Kat, I was just about to say I’ve chickened out due a severe storm with lightning.

But it feels nice! Not heavy. Just need to work out how to adjust the strap and work the Straploks. :)

I’ll head back up shortly to try that stuff and check the tuning etc.

Which begs my next - maybe stupid - question. What’s an EYGP chinabucker?
They are reproduction Thunderbird pickups made in China by eye guitar parts and available on ebay for $55.00 . They are pretty good for the money, I have them in my Classic Pro Thunderbirds. The Epiphone 760s are much better.

Maybe Carlo @Dadagoboi from Cataldo does that

No, I don't think Ferrari sells raw bodies either...

Seriously, I build them one at a time . The amount of effort it takes to get my lazy ass into the shop would make the price prohibitive to sell just bodies.

Brad of Lowe Custom Guitars has his bodies made by a west coast company, excellent quality. Brad's a great guy!

$200 for a DIY kit including a bunch of stuff you'd have to buy anyway...including a neck? Sign me up!
