I was sitting in a bar in Detroit and I was just talking some smack about Canadians when I said that all Canada has is lumberjacks and hockey players. Well this lumberjack lookin’ fella gets all huffy and says, careful buddy, my wife’s from Canada. Without missing a beat, I said oh yeah, what team does she play for?
Obviously a joke and it didn’t actually happen... but it could’ve and that makes it even funnier.
Your average Canadian would have laughed and bought you a beer.
Btw, we wouldn’t consider that talking smack, we'd consider it a“chirp’”, and we love to chirp each other.

Thanks, I wondered why they started hating me around age 4. I blamed their mom for coddling them. You know, like feeding them every day.
Come to think of it, I've never heard a Canadian use the term 'talking smack'. Actually 'chirping' is a common Canadian dialect.
It's a good time to be in manufacturing or anything where you get commission. US companies take full advantage of the dollar, and there are brokers that buy brand new vehicles in Canada, then sell them in the US.
I concur, not a phrase we use, “talking $hit”, maybe
