Thunderbird Club

I wrote the guy. Maybe he got scammed and is just trying to resell...maybe he’s a jerk. Wouldn’t know
There was someone around here that got conned by a store. He was selling a bolt-on Epi as a Classic Pro. I mentioned it to him, and he said he contacted the store and they assured him it was a Classic Pro. Oh well, nothing more I could do.

My Epi Tbird Classic-IV Pros.. (impatiently waiting for new top hats and white Tbird vinyl logo to arrive for the Alpine White one!)

Yes. I think the cap I put into the P-Bird is .022 or so, but that's not that big a deal. It should just roll off less (Carlo or Kat or somebody else who actually knows can correct me if that's wrong.)

Me and tone caps? Funny man!

.1µF for (seriously) thumpy vintage tone and .047µF for more modern maybe?

Update: I have an idea that really early Ps had the .1µF cap, but may have dreamt that.

Hello!
As you may have noticed we're pretty chatty of late, I didn't want your post and lovely 'Birds to get lost in the wash too quickly. Would you like me to add you to the club - Pics = Proof :)

Well I haven’t plugged it in yet. I had an allergic reaction from dinner last night and spent a terrible night and morning.

Anyway, I have had a brief noodle around acoustically.

Point 1, I’ve been worried needlessly about the neck being too narrow. Didn’t notice it, lovely.
2. I thought the Vintage Sunburst in the ad was too dark, but it is beautiful.
3. The G string rings like a bell.
4. I can’t really see the stripes on the back easily. Look again when I feel better? Or are they not as easy to see on a Gibson as a Classic Pro ?

Can anyone identify the stings? Pic below. The seller didn’t remember, just got the reply ‘Ernie’s ??’
Was wondering if they were Hi Beams ? No silk, the ball ends seem to be gold colour.

Hope you're feeling better soon! It's a beautiful 'Bird, the laminations area bit subtle on some Gibsons. The strings could be DR's, hopefully you can play it loud sometime very soon :)

First gig on the ‘02 went well. Funny how different it sounds from the ‘14. Way livelier. Easier to hear in a mix, but not quite as thumpy. Not positive which one I’ll take to my next Derek Hoke gig, but that’s a good problem :)
One of these basses will get flats and I can’t really decide which this second. I love em both a lot, but they are very different for sure

I haven't figured out how to do a poll, so I'll just ask... the AW with green carbon fiber pg... which color top hats? Black with white numbers or bright white with black numbers? I have ordered both, just looking for your opinions. I first tried a combo color scheme of white, black & green but the green didn't match. I'm trying to keep it clean looking to highlight that pg. Thanks!

Bring both!

Agree, I suspect they can be tamed but in my case will probably require flats to do so. I just need to get around to ordering some. Veronica's advice looks good too, the Classic might be a bit more laid back and fit better sound wise in a worship service at church. And remember, a great player can make just about any bass work good in just about any setting, unfortunately I'm not there yet.
I just bought the classic and hope to at least jam with it tomorrow night. It's bedroom tone is not to my liking and I worry it's too aggressive for the bulk of stuff I do.Lots of British Invasion, 70's classic rock, blues and country. I'm holding out to see how it sounds in the mix but I'm worried my love affair with Tbirds may have been a fling. Side note, everyone loved my Pro IV, which gets little love in here, is that because the active eq in the Pro is more of a Fender tone and not indicative of a true Tbird?

Could be.

Full treble on the tone pot , mostly bridge pup and eq your amp brighter might help. Pickups closer to fresh strings can't hurt. Maybe play closer to the bridge.

'British Invasion' like the Kinks, Cream, Who. Small Faces, Stones, Yardbirds, Animals, Spencer Davis, and Mott will work fine with a TBird. Half of that stuff was recorded with a Rivoli or H-22.

I suggest you get more used to the new bass and find out what it can do before you play it out. If you're happy with it then others should be also...if not they have a problem. IMO.

I think we need to actually see them on.

It's just such a change from my Reverend, which is a glorified Precision, and my Precision. Tomorrow night is just guys getting together, making noise so I figured it's the perfect place to really hear it. I have been running it through an Ampeg SCR-DI which ,when you run a little dirt on it does give it a nice cutting tone so that's my starting point. There'll be two guitars and a beast of a drummer( incredible hi-hat work) so it'll be a good shakedown. Fingers crossed cause I like being the oddball, going against the flow so in a sea of Fenders and Ibby's a Tbird does help you to stand out.
