Thunderbird Club

Buy used wherever possible. Keep an eye out for bargains. I'm fortunate in having no amp GAS.
I had amp GAS for a while, but no longer. My particular GAS affliction these days is drums. I kinda want a specific Tama kit for absolutely no good reason. The good thing is that I have no place to put it, which saves me from myself. The late '60s cheapo Reuther (Pearl only cheaper) kit does just fine. It was mistaken for a vintage Rogers kit last Thursday night. I didn't set the guy straight. That way he could be in awe and spill his beer on the bar instead of my drums.

Well you are extremely lucky in that case. My class D amp blew up twice in the space of months and was sold off for parts to an electronics enthusiast. I would never gig one without a backup ... and you could never gaffa tape enough bargepoles together to induce me to touch one again.

I will say that a lunchbox amp + cab will not take up a lot more room than the cab with the lunchbox built in ... and in this instance we are talking about the land of stupidly cheap used equipment, not the UK or Oz/NZ.
I live in the land of stupidly cheap equipment, but I haven't had a problem with the Carvin combo. I figured the were the Peavey of modern times. Cheap, reliable as a stone, and unrespected. In other words, perfect. But they are going out of business and selling off their stock. I don't need or want anything at the moment. If mommy wants a cheap amp, that might be a place to look - Carvin fire sale stuff.

And one of those old fliptops isn't the most practical amp for most things.

...only if unbeatable tone is your goal.

I don't have a Thunderbird II, either. Given unlimited funds and space, I would have both. And that Tama kit. Oh, well.
The II cost less than any of my bought used motorcycles. Takes up less space, doesn't require licensing or maintenance and won't depreciate...I wish I'd figured that out four bikes ago.

Yeah, my PF 500 turned out to be an expensive doorstop, Streamliner 900 has been fine if a little bottom heavy, but Class D is here to stay. My backup is a 1990s USA single rackspace 150 watt Ampeg B-1 with two 12AX7 pre and mosfet power.

6.5 pounds for the Genz, 15 for the toroidal tranny Pig.

I guess this is my 'Vintage Sunday' post...Tort!

So much cool in there!

I do the same kind of thing. It kinda sounds like an upright, but what with the wireless, HPF, and ToneHammer, it's not entirely an upright sound that gets to the amp, and then there's the amp. It makes for some kinda odd sounds with the bow sometimes. That's fine. Audiences tend to crap themselves when the bass player pulls out a bow. Even if the bass player kinda sucks at playing with a bow. If they were a little more sophisticated, I would be screwed!

You and me both, brother!

Really liked that. The T’Bird is just ‘there’, sounded great mate

Thanks so much!

Still chasing down the concept of writing/recording songs using only one instrument. Every track on this is my '02 Gibson, no other instruments used...it's kinda noisy...fair warning...

Sounds like the theme song to David Lynch & Quenton Terrentino's "An Extraterrestrial in the Old West":wideyed:

Hah, thanks. Not obvious from this photo is that if I’d moved any further to the right the headstock would collide with a monitor shelf, and any further to the left I’d collide with the guitarist. Terrible stage setup/orientation.

Just so you all know, @BklynKen is one of the best people I've ever met.
Why thank you, sir. Likewise.

Was a tight stage to work with, you handled it with grace.

Personally would go with this one GS414B I have both, and for no quantitative reason, I prefer the one I linked YMMV

Thunderbirds don't like Hercules racks very much... I speak from experience

But I wouldn't use anything else with Thunderbirds besides Hercules.

I'm a big fan of German precision engineering - So it's König & Meyer all the way:

I have the latter double and quadruple stands, and they work perfect with all kinds of wierd shaped basses and guitars. :)
