Now THAT'S a good use example of the new DG AOU with cabsim. You can use your own cab as a sim, too.

Also ... not convinced of the usefulness of cabsims. I'm fully aware they are the latest and greatest thing out there on the FX forum and people are paying more for them than they would a cab. There was one on the VT Bass DI and it was just a treble cut switch. The VU preamp really doesn't need it and you can always cut treble a little.

Oh no, in that situation, I'd set the Ampeg EQ to 'flat' and run the pre through it. They don't have to move the mic or DI, but you have options...

Maybe, but it could also be a solution looking for a problem. My bass sounds great, the amp sounds ‘ok’ and the cab sucks. I got a presentable tone going and FOH will deal with the rest. No preamp is gonna make that cab sound any better

Hi guys, I'm new here and actually this is my first post on Talkbass
I'm a proud Thunderbird owner, I own 3 of them: The middle one is an Epiphone Classic-IV Pro (Called Vetrarbird) and my first bass (tuned D standard), the Standard-IV Silverburst (Stingerbird, E Standard) is my 3rd bass and 2nd Tbird and the Goth is my 4th and last bass (B Standard).
Right now I'm working on building a custom Thunderbird (we are going to change the headstock, logo and some other things). I was thinking about buying the Seymour Duncan Thunderbird Pups, does anyone of you ever tried them? Can you give me some infos about them?

Welcome! Hopefully, someone with more experience using Duncan pickups will chime in. From my time here, Thunderbucker Ranch seem to be the most popular, followed by Lollar and Lull

Stage manager insisted bass players and drummers use provided backline. I have a world class bass rig a few feet away, but sure, I’ll play through ‘Baby’s First Ampeg’ to spare you the 5 seconds it’ll take to move a mic and DI line

Yeah, I have it set pretty neutral and it sounds good in the house. It’s a short set, so I’m not gonna stress out about it. I have another gig after that and will be happily running my own rig again

Finally back from vacation. *Only* 64 pages to work thru!!! Finally skimmed them all but probably missed things. I see the Duke received his NR from Carlo. The clip sounded fantastic!!! Congrats on yet another Bird!!! From zero to 3 Birds on a couple of months. You don't mess around!!

Yeah, I could see it when you have a specific sound with a specific cab but are required to run DI. Still I don't see any real world use for myself, but I could see it for others. Totally a YMMV situation. Or YKMV for you.

More to the point in my specific case is that playing live in NYC is almost always a really annoying compromise, so usually the best I can do is "good enough". That's why I like having the pedal, so at least I can add something nice to any rig to at least make it tolerable.

Quite true about NYC gigs. Ken, you remember that embarrassing gig I was telling you about?, if it wasn't for an Aguilar Tone Hammer pedal. I would have been really sunk.

Getting there... spent a few.minutes at my friend's shop, made a control plate out of the old pickguard. Gotta hit the beveled edges with a little wet-sanding, to get the white-ish burr out... I did the bevelling with a hand plane, wich I guess might do that to soft plastic.

But she's gittin' done!
