I might have to step away a bit to do some consulting in another thread about how to save Gibson. Just because I don’t have the ‘education’ or ‘knowledge’ in finance and market trends, I’m confident I can tell a Harvard MBA grad the best way to run a billion dollar business. I’ll contribute things like, “my Squier smokes any Gibson ever made.” Or maybe, “I hope they go under since they don’t make an active 7 string anyway.”

I fit a number of your criteria here....

I opined that the most likely purchaser of Gibson as a going concern is Yamaha. I still stand by that. I think that Gibsons (and Epiphones) produced under Yamaha management would be great instruments at reasonable (not cheap) prices with a fantastic distribution system. It would also give Yamaha some great brand recognition (they have it in a number of instruments, but seems to be lacking in guitars).

I read an article yesterday that Henry J. believes he will get the note(s) refinanced and that the company will be stronger for it. I'm sure if they were really concerned with the future of Gibson that they could find the article.

Speaking of which, I'll try to find it again and post it up.

That would be an interesting read.

From a capital markets point of view, as a lender, there is little point in pushing bankruptcy. All that it does for you is gets you paid less than face value, and you really want to get face value back if you value your job. So, better to refinance, even if the terms are more punitive (but not punitive to the point of causing bankruptcy). So, yes Gibson can probably be refinanced. But there will likely be conditions attached (which won't be public) like selling off some businesses, a convincing turn-around plan with a suitable debt payback schedule...

It is all Politics amigo. The same reason Remington is going into bankruptcy. Both Gibson and Remington were not playing ball with the deep state liberals and the lobbyists. After all why do you think Gibson was raided twice and all materials and guitars were confiscated????? Do you think Gibson or Remington are not selling merchandise???? They just don't fund the deep state liberal ideas and never have. I hate to sound like a redneck, but this has been going on for some time, there is Coup going on in our country. It will take a lot or perseverance to sort it all out.

Epiphone makes some very high quality, great value/consistency instruments...and the local politics seem not to play a part...

I think you have me mistaken... Don't let the number fool you, I was here prior to you.... It was Jeff's initiation.
It was more of a general statement;)
