I have no idea what tuners were used on the original '63 T-birds. In 1963 I was too busy being potty trained to be worrying about tuners on a T-bird.

Priorities, man. Everybody does the first thing (in theory), but few are called by the 'Bird.

Interesting idea about Yamaha. All I can add to that is that Yamaha is in so many areas of manufacturing and I can't think of any one they do poorly.

Really the only thing Yamaha doesn't do well is marketing of their musical instruments. I think they're probably making enough on motorcycles. Maybe.

I would say that it is more specific to guitars. Pianos/keyboards they are very well regarded. Guitars; almost unknown.

Motorcycles and guitars. Why not? They already to pianos very well. I'm imagining a Yamaha Thunderbird. It won't be a motorcycle. A Thunderbird with two wheels is a Triumph. Triumph is absolutely not going to buy Gibson.

But Triumphs are really cool. Hmm.
FWIW, Billy Sheehan's bass is a Yamaha.
