For a practice amp, that’s pretty spendy for sure. Perfectly reasonable for the quality though, if you were looking for a gig rig. I’m still torn on going tube or old school SS for my electric gigs. An M6 would be a consideration. Bummed that Sunn Colosseum I tried to get slipped away...really want one of those some day

Afaik the VP fits -- just fits -- the standard Epi tapered case. People have posted photos here or out in the Gen Pop Epi thread of the VP in the 940-ETBCS. All rather moot for me as my next Bird will be a Gibson, Orville or Greco.

I’m pretty much the same way. I have thought about a cheap Epi to make a fun project bass. Convert it to a II by filling in the bridge pickup cavity, finish exactly the way I’d want...that sort of thing, but it would just be for fun

If I lived where you live, I’d rethink my rig for sure, especially since I already have to drag an upright to most of my gigs. Nashville is getting more and more crowded, but it’s still easy enough to own a car and haul your gear to the gig

View attachment 2929384 So I've been eyeing a Thunderbird style bass for a while. I love my Spector Euro as far as sound and feel. Unfortunately, Spector does not make a Euro "X" (Thunderbird) style body. They make a Legend X, but I do not like Legend necks. The USA Spector X, while totally awesome is out of my price range. My good friend plays a Lull T-Bird which is nice, but still a little out of my price range. So I happened upon this Epi Goth T-Bird that was almost new for $200. I will be my gateway T-bird for sure. I basically got it for the body/bridge. The neck, pups and controls will be removed. A reverse P-bass neck is on order, active EMGs (reverse P & J) in T-bird housing, and a HAZ clone pre will be installed. Right after I get it painted gloss white. When finished I should be into the bird for around $600. I'll post pictures as the journey continues. For now a pic of the starting point.......

If I were in your position, would likely go for the YBA, an A/B SS head (eg the M6) and a tweenyweeny backup for both of those. That's three.

I pretty much already have that, except that the M9 spooks me a bit, reliability-wise. At some point I want to get an old Sunn or two, just to satisfy my curiosity. Been too long since I’ve owned one. My Reiner 6SL7 pre with a power amp is also an amazing option for the hybrid thing, but I usually keep the Reiner wired into my studio setup for sessions

A Haz should be great in that bass. I basically went a similar route with my Goth except I used a surplus trimpot tone pump in it. Unfortunately the tonepump was defective (or so I thought at the time) so I took it out and installed Bart pups and an Aggie OBP-2 preamp along with some creative coil switching. Sounds great! Turns out my tonepump wasn't defective, the output jack was. Oh well, now I have a spare tonepump and a pair of Goth pups for the next bass I mod.
