Thunderbird Club

Yes. My right thumb is on the front pup and right"pinkie"on the rear plucking with index and"bird"(appropriate)fingers. Ring finger just kinda hangs there. I took both of them off at one time and forgot where the hell I'd put them but got lucky and found them again. I like keeping it "as built". I f I wanna get rounder tone-on ballads, thumb goes on neck end,"pinkie"on front cover. Might be "bad"technique but it works for me.. Oh. If I'm using the plectrum,it's between pups.:bassist::)

The fingers ?

This is probably controversial ... but I reckon the neck joint is pretty insignificant to the tone of an instrument.

pickups
strings
bridge

As long as the rest is tightly held together it's all good.
Not particularly controversial as far as I am concerned. It is fact.

Wait a minute, i had this, and it had an ebony board. Ok, 2 Gibsons with ebony boards then.
Old and losin it, that's my excuse.

I dig the mix & match silver/gold tuner fittings.
And the brass? nut- please elaborate on this a bit more. The score lines between string grooves, do these serve a purpose? or mainly aesthetics?

Apparently the slots do help by isolating each string section - not sure it really does anything but it was worth trying. Brass nuts can either help or not. I always test a bass I make with a few different types (bone/brass/maple/ebony/tusk) to see which sounds best. I also have made dual material nuts of brass/ebony or brass/tusk or bone. In general this Warmoth neck is on a very special bass that sounds amazing. When you add up all the particulars, I'd have to believe they all contributed to that awesomeness.

OK. That's just too cool.

I need some help on some replacement pickups. Not really concerning my Thunderbird, but I have a Mexi P Bass that I am going to have routed for a Thunderbird pickup where the split coils normally would be. I am torn between the Thunderbucker Ranch 66S or the Lollars. Any opinions on these two or any other recommendations?

I went with Lollars.

That P-bass is absolutely rIdOnKuLoUs!!!:cool::cool:

Yeah, I did not want to get into that debate since it's so heatedly discussed. I agree with Kubicki but the best pickups/electronics aren't going to do much for a bass that resonates poorly. In my experience, bolt on necks are brighter but don't sustain as long and lack the depth of a through body. All of this pre EQ of course.
Just a bizarre thought-if one wants the bass body to resonate,"borrow"the Ziljian(sp?)cymbal formula and craft a body outta that!

Ok, Done driving the girl crazy with this damn looper business...last one for awhile, I swear! Figured out some midi clocking stuff, so my loops don't flam when they retrigger...finally :)

NICE! I realize you're using the term"flam"as in percussion, but that sounds like something Moe would say to Curly;)
