Thunderbird Club

Great pair you have there!

the emg 'bird has got some serious range. It'll do about everything from honky to minor holocaust lol.
Seriously though, I can get a thick warm bluesy tone, a nice funk style honk, or even do a pretty decent tbird growl with it. Between right hand technique, preamp settings, and eq'ing you can get about anything you want from it. The real beauty is that the picups have quick connects, so anything in the EMG TB line will plug right into it: TBP, TBJ, TBDC, etc...
Possibilities are endless.
At some point I WILL replace the ugly nut and have it refinished too. Just not in a mad rush at this point.

Thanks, I am completely in love of this pair, at first I was hesitant to buy the NR and finally, I loooove it!

Reading you, I am even more eager to customize a T-Bird !

One thing is sure, we have never enough ... Thunderbird(s)(s)(s) :bassist:

I'd say go for it!
You'll probably be really happy with the pickups.
Granted its definitely a different animal from my passives, but hey, thats why god created more basses

I was backstage stage left for Rush R40. I delivered two more Badbirds to John McIntosh (Skully) and got to see sound check and meet Geddy. A truly cool experience. Sorry for the lousy pictures. Skully took one of Geddy and me with the Thunderbird I'll post that as soon as he sends it to me.

If there's one thunderbird i'd love to have it'd be a blackbird. Gibson not epiphone. Seeing these pictures makes me want one! Plus if i take my dads word on it being the best sounding bass he's ever played (until he sold it) then yeh :D

It does sound great :)
Surprising how versatile it is not having any controls.
Right now its set up with some unknown stainless rounds, soon to be tapewounds to tame this beast a little.

As it sits now it'll do a good impression of cliff from kill 'em all, spot on for rage against the machine (sounds exactly like Tim commorford playing bombtrack - can you say CLANK!), and with the ultra hi and low in on my svt I can get pretty close to some mid 2000's Dan Maines.

Are you able to test these with a multimeter compared to the standard Epi Goth pups? I am really keen in ordering a set, but am unsure if it is worth it

Tried to measure them tonight, but I think my multimeter is out of whack... It does says beep to confirm continuity, but I can't get a proper reading out of it - It goes down to zero no matter what I throw at it... :p

Gonna try again in a couple of days, when I get the time to pick a new one up.

The website from where I bought the DeepSixx pickups says they measure:
Neck: 12.3K ohms / Bridge: 16.4K ohms

According to the Epiphone's Pickup Chart they should measure:
Neck: 11.3K ohms / Bridge: 12.01K ohms

Unfortunately I can't confirm either of the above.

For comparison Epiphone rate the regular TB-Plus pickups 14,6K ohms - Go figure... ;)

']Nice collection!! I love the Blackbird!! I bought my second one a few weeks back and it's a well used one as well. Plays and sounds great and I'm not worried about getting it dinged up. The TRC's on my Gibson's are all a little flimsy feeling and they don't lay flat against the headstock.

So is it me, or does the blackbird have a different neck profile? It seems waaaay chunkier than my '14.
Rounder and deeper, like a "C" neck vs a "D" shape neck almost. Haven't measured or anything but either im crazy or its different.

You notice this on yours?
