Thunderbird Club

So as promised, here's some pics (sorry about the quality)

She's definitely got some play wear, but it's in decent shape. Good neck, minimal fretboard wear, very few dents.
Only have 2 gripes. 1) it has a scratchy static sound when plugged in...think like the sound of a vinyl LP thats been well played, traced it down to a bad solder joint that will need to be repaired, not a big deal at all, and 2) the TRC is a little wavy. Actually really surprised how thin it is. Gotta be 1/2 the thickness of the ones on my other birds, epi's included.
Other than that its pretty great :)

Nice collection!! I love the Blackbird!! I bought my second one a few weeks back and it's a well used one as well. Plays and sounds great and I'm not worried about getting it dinged up. The TRC's on my Gibson's are all a little flimsy feeling and they don't lay flat against the headstock.

Thanks!
Yeah, I'm loving the new edition.
And like was said, no worries about a little rough handling. Just adds to the "mojo" lol.

I fixed the solder issue, plays great now, and the best part is the condition of this one. No gouges or buckle rash. Literally I could strip the paint, steam the dings, finish sand, repaint, and it would look brand new. All the wear is just from rubbing. Not that there's refinishing plans in the works, just nice to have the option on a 14 year old bass.

I'm slowly converting to a tbird only guy. My rics are getting dusty these days. I don't know, but once you get used to the body and the super fast necks its hard to go back. The looks are just icing.

The Blackbird case is like other TBird cases, but is says Blackbird on it and has a black satin covering cloth inside with the same design as the pickguard. So it is a TBird case with Blackbird specific "enhancements".
So, even more uncommon than a standard TKL.

Gotcha, thanks!

I remember when they were blowing them out for $700 with a case shipped!! I almost bought one then, and my wife was urging me to buy one. I was trying to behave and had just bought a new bass (Peavey B-Quad 4) so I passed. I kicked myself over that mistake for a long time. I have made up for that since then by buying 2 of them ;)

@Trebeless : your Epi'Classic in full EMG very interested me, what's the result ???
As I wrote earlier, I intend to do the same thing on a Pro IV, or a Classic... (following the second hand market)

Great pair you have there!

the emg 'bird has got some serious range. It'll do about everything from honky to minor holocaust lol.
Seriously though, I can get a thick warm bluesy tone, a nice funk style honk, or even do a pretty decent tbird growl with it. Between right hand technique, preamp settings, and eq'ing you can get about anything you want from it. The real beauty is that the picups have quick connects, so anything in the EMG TB line will plug right into it: TBP, TBJ, TBDC, etc...
Possibilities are endless.
At some point I WILL replace the ugly nut and have it refinished too. Just not in a mad rush at this point.
