All good reasons why you wouldn't have caught me dead following those groups back in the day.
Back then (mid 1970's) my opinions were...
Elton John = sappy bubble gum rock
Bowie = beyond out there, made bizarre look normal
Elvis = chubby has been with a sneer lip and greasy hair
The other ones I don't even recognize.
Now days I appreciate their music for what it is, but seriously, some of these acts (i.e. Genesis with Gabriel, etc) when you look back on them just seem silly and not ready for prime time. JMHO, YMMV

At the time I wondered if he and Peter Gabriel were in a contest to out strange each other...
The theatrics became more polished later on but in the early to mid 1970's these guys were considered bizarre to say the least. The music was always good.

Awesome. Thank you. For the dimensions I did measure them before the purchase and was surprised that it was over an inch as opposed to my 13 which was under an inch. All good.

Elton John always was... Let's say a showman. And I had to go back to his discography to toc check, as I was thinking that the bubble gum pop started in the 80s. But, I fear that you are right; I think the turning point was Rock of the Westies. It was a good, but not great album. I always cut him some slack as he was a rocker in the early 70s.
By the mid 60s, Elvis was a self-parody. But he was truly a ground breaker in the 50s; possibly even a threat to the establishment.
Bowie took glam to new heights. He was always about the show. I was never a huge Bowie fan, but I have always thought that the songs were good and the musicians he chose were excellent.
New York Dolls were part of the genesis of Punk... All of these bands were important at their peak. Primarily because they took rock to an interesting new place and were reviled by the establishment. And that is perhaps part of why they were important; after all, rock is about upsetting your parents. And the (possibly silly) costumes and stage personas are part of that.

So I installed this truss cover and had to fit it. Because the holes didn't line up I used the old trick of gluing the screw heads to the plate and using double sided tape to attach to the headstock. Trying to now figure out how to age the plate a bit...
Any ideas out there?

Apparently, according to a video posted here, Chicago Music Exchange has an "aging"service.
I think I can handle that aging process with my alien sweat.

Never cared much for Genesis (but love later Peter Gabriel work) and their theatrics personally but I feel Bowie was in a different league. As in, whatever guise he constructed for himself - the stage was a platform for his conceptualization of the arena spectacle and 'rock star' persona - these things which were just evolving then and he was already way ahead of the game focusing on the phenomenon in real time. He later admitted to tiring of it because after awhile the concept was fully realized and he needed to move on to new areas of expression. A friend of mine who grew up in Blackpool said fans would show up dressed like Ziggy to the new tour and he'd now become the "Thin White Duke" leaving them in the dust!

What’s the story behind that one?
The focus was on the costumes, not the people wearing them. I'm sure there are better pics and 10,000 other qualified candidates, but my goal was to hastily assemble a small group of reasons that a furry collar was, IMO, unremarkable. Nothing more
I think Kat was the one who was most interested but anyway, the pickups from Mojo arrived today. I'm pretty sure they've used the covers and rings from the Philly Luthier but allegedly the insides are close replicas of the original pups. All I can do is post some sound files once my build is finished, until then it's just pictures:
