Thunderbird Club

To the Darkglass aficionados here:

What do you use and how would you describe the tone - compare and contrast B3K, VMT, and Sansamp (or anything else you think adds perspective)

I'm not good at describing tone, but the B3K and a TBird are a match made in heaven. The B3K has a real modern sound - think early Faith No More or Tool. The VMT sounds more, well, vintage - less a distortion and more a tube emulation, capable of Entwistle, Geddy, and Geezer tones. You recently got a Midtown, correct? I love my Midtown with the VMT. I hope that's a little helpful - I would encourage trying out both.

I have the B7K Ultra. As @Jakeman stated, it's a match made in heaven with The Birds and the Ric. I don't really use much distortion. I get it into just a hair of overdrive, and that's not really needed if i have the boost dimed on the GK.

I took it as a joke, but then again I'm a professional WiseAss!! I say you are still welcome here even if you "only" have an LPB ;)
I really appreciate the kind words and I'm glad you're cool with me only having a LPB even though the last one I got comes about as close as you can get to a thunderbird without actually being one other than the Gibson IV and V.
Here it is. Nice seller threw in a hard case too.

and as for Christine's head stock, I would vote for 4.

That's helpful, thanks. I have had the Midtown for almost 2 years; love the tone. Everyday it is a toss up between the `bird, the midtown and the Casaday which gets played. 3 Basses each with their own unique and awesome sound.

I'm contemplating amp heads. I had thought the Tech 21 VT 500, but since I have a Tech 21 Fly Rig, I have the thought that doubling up on sansamp is not the way to go. So, I am now thinking through the Darkglass Microtubes 900.

Darkglass solved my distortion hunt. The B3K is a bit more “modern” distortion and inherintly aggressive in tone. The VMT is geared more vintage in tone (such as nailing that overdriven SVT or tube amp). Of course, both can be dialed from a bit of dirt to full on breathing fire. To my ear, they sound more “natural” than the Sansamp does or more like overdriven tubes I guess.

OK Last round, at @RedVee's suggestion I'm adding my five favourites as a shortlist to see if we can come up with a winner :)
Just to save me redoing them, read the text as "Ddraig" and in either green Abalone or black Mother of Pearl (low impact against the black

Number 1 is my favorite, as long as the text remains a dark subdued color and follows the curve of the headstock like your example shows.
Number two is a close second.
All the others are very distant third place contestants.

Do you have any experience with the Jules stuff?
