Thunderbird Club

Time for some kind of humbucker in that neck position......Them Chinabuckers seem pretty cheap. Also, someone around here is getting rid of a pair of Gibsons, maybe buy one of them? Wants 100 for the pair..
That was the original plan but for $30 I'm gettin' "the sound". IF I keep it, I'll eventually put a humbucker in there. However, it would take woodworking Way beyond my abilities, a new PG, and a big enough hand rest to hide any gaps. Or a bunch o' cash to a luthier. There are higher priorities. That P pup is sounding better than I coulda axed for at this price.:)

Very nice, saw those when I was browsing Seattle CL last month. Not too often do you see a full set with the horns. Unfortunately, my gear savings is tied up in getting a new precision pickup, buying speakers for the Sunn 6x12 I'm restoring, and getting a surfboard.

But it's still split P soup..

Well just warmed up the trusty old SuperReverb blackface and plugged my Surf Strat into channel two. Played a few licks at bedroom volume and a few at low stage volume (all tone pots centered and vibrato and reverb off). Sounded great.
Went back to bedroom volume, plugged in an SG bass, centered the onboard tone pot and did a walking bass line.

Conclusion - don't go there! Absolute fart out on every string at every note until you get up around a high G and even then the speakers are struggling to stay attached to the sound board. No way would I ever use this set up for any bass at any volume. Much worse than puppy doodoo!
Hmm. Interesting. When I did it(67/68)I plugged into the "Normal" channel, Volume-4ish, Treble4-5, Bass-10. Neck pup only playing background music for Officer's Club cocktail party. Acoustic piano, drums(mostly brushes)and me(EB-3). Never had a problem, no "Fartiness",sometimes played a little louder but that neck humbucker really rattled the walls. The bass was Navy issue, prolly a 67 but when I got out in Nov.68, I bought one for myself and used it in a couple of different amps 'til I got my '67 TBird in 73. First amp: 1963-Fender-Bassman-004.jpg one like this, second amp:0608181235-00.jpg this one-since 70! Yes, I've used this shot b4 but it's too heavy to take outside-again-for a better pic:rollno:

Wish I had that Bassman. Very nice piece of gear.

Wish I Still had that Bassman. Sold it-and another just like it-when I got outta the business for awhile. Lack of storage space. And here's these 2 again: I gotta get a new shot w/ the new PG.
