I've got Labella flats on the JC and it's perfect for those sorts of gigs. Roll back the tone and play toward the neck for the mellow stuff. Then turn up the tone a little and I can dig in and pop for the some nice burpy funk tones.

Yes I played Ipanema and Autumn Leaves, but Treasure by Bruno Mars was fun (look it up), I had a great meal with a nice IPA, was home by 10:30 and got $200. And I managed a one trip load in/out with my little rig!

Might I suggest a folding guitar stand? That looks risky.:jawdrop:

I only mention it because of my own horror story. We were doing a "classy" wedding reception in a Miami Beach hotel. On a break, my 67 TBird-on a stand-was back near the amp . Some little hellions ran through the band "area"(no stage)and knocked it over, cracking the neck at the head stock. [Parents:curb yer kids!.] I got NO apology but the kids got "a stern talking to". B F D!:mad::(

There should be a yikes button as well as a like!
I love the 60’s Gibsons, but I’m really happy with my Epiphones.
As much as I wish I had kept my EB2 (sold long ago), I’m not sure if I would gig with it if I still had it. The JC is a great bass and even if it got destroyed, I could get another one for less than 1K.
Same with the VP. If it got a headstock break, that would give me an excuse to refinish it in nitro (and/or buy another one)

At the time that happened, it was the only bass I played. Plus it wasn't "Vintage" yet. I had an EB-3 to use while the Bird was repaired. Unfortunately the fix required a graft and I lost the serial #(which I have written down). Now it Only goes out to places where there is a distinct separation from the audience, Otherwise, I take one of my others-a reason to have more than one(like I need a reason).
