I bought an extra set for a Candy Apple Explorer project that I’m going to put together this winter..Still too humid here in the summer for painting with nitro.

OK I need your help again for my next builds which will be a pair of Thunderbirds, one of which will be possibly more open to customisation than the other (mine). Baring in mind that Lulls, Lollars and Thunderbuckers are crazy money over here is there any chance you guys could just give a list of features that might be on your dream Tbird. Just to give me a sort of idea what other people like beyond my craving for a red one So stuff like construction, electronics, decoration, finish etc. etc....

Even with anti bloom thinners?

I just prefer to work in low humidity..That way I don't have to look too close..or use blush out.Besides that,I'll need a winter project to keep me out of trouble.

So, I just checked out this at my local GC:

I liked the sound and look but the neck felt like no Thunderbird I have ever come across. It was wide at the nut, like P-Bass wide and the front to back thickness, was way bigger than my 2014 T-Bird. The veloutte was also really weird feeling. I guess this one is a pass.

I will be sad when GC goes under but not surprised. It took me going to the back of the the store, politely interrupting 4 sales people who were takling about TV, to get one to grudgingly come and take the bass off the wall for me to try. It took another 5 or so minutes for him to get a ladder to reach the bass (it was up high), which seems like a really dumb way to sell instruments.

When he handed me the bass, I realized that the strings were not wound onto the tuning pegs. The strings were layed in the slots and turned a half turn or so and also uncut. I tried playing it but it kept going out of tune and it desperately needed an intonation.

Frustrated because I have never seen a 2013 NR T-Bird in the wild and wanting to make sure I got the true feel/sound of the bass, I started to re-string the bass on the sales floor with the exising strings. The E,A,D all went on fine bit the G snapped at the tuner as I unwound it.

I asked the sales person if they had another G-string to put on the bass but was asked in return if I intended to "buy it"?!

I said I had not decided yet and he said "well, I will make sure its fixed in a bit." Then he took the bass over to the service area and said nothing else. It was surreal.

All I can say is, I relate to that. Thought I’d be the first to go. Sh!t happens. And there’s no way to ever be prepared for it.

It is crazy to me how indifferent some of the employees can be at GC. Others will bend over backwards to help you out while many do not want to deal with the customers at all. I know it is not unique to GC. Many retail workers are only there for a check and customer service is their last priority. I would have been inclined to answer the "Do you intend to buy it" with a "Do you intend to sell it?". Regardless of you buying it or another customer buying it, it needs strings to be playable.

I know, Wendy was so desperate to see the Stones we forked out something like £190 each for tickets with a face value of £60, there is a bit of a controversy about it at the moment here but I don't think there's anything anyone can do other than fans not buying them. Paul McCartney is playing in Liverpool in December, tickets for that would cost nearly £700 for the cheapest seats in the arena. It's a huge rip off to put it politely. We're going to see the Proclaimers tomorrow night at the local (45 miles away) theatre, £30 each

I would give anything to see the Proclaimers. One of my bucket list bands.

Our stadiums, for both sports and music, operate strangely these days.
They seem to only offer a percentage of good seats in the first few days of sale. So only crappier and just plain crap seats are available to the average punter. Then after enough of those are gone, they release another tranche of good seats.

Got me beat. I normally just give up.

I really wanted to see Paul McCartney last year. Got on first day - eventually - all I could get was the last two rows up in the sky and they wanted more money than I thought reasonable. So I missed out. Guess I need to hope Ringo does a tour soon. Never seen a Beatle in concert. Likely never will.

I now wait and see if there are any clearance tickets a week out. If I’m going to have a poopie seat I’d rather pay less...

GC svcks. I went in to trade a cabinet that I bought there in the first place for another and they asked for ID as if it was stolen. After about half an hour I asked "why all this?" to which they replied "state of California requires this" me laughing said "I bought this thing here in the first place!" and I got all these blank stares...funny.. I was then talking to a salesperson (they all seemed under 25) and he explained they only work there for the discounts. Definitely not the old fashioned music store I grew up with. Bummer..
Totally hear you on the neck of the 13 NR. Nothing like a TBird neck. Much more akin to a P neck. You are absolutely right. A luthier friend told me it was to avoid the headstock break problem...hmmmm...
