Yes but it works both ways. It can't be that hard to pronounce right which tells me that either they have a bad ear or unnecessary arrogance/laziness. Lots to know about a person right off the bat! In all fairness though non phonetic mother tongue speakers have it harder than ones that grew up speaking phonetic mother languages. Another fascinating subject....
Welsh has some odd sounding letters I'll grant you, people who talk on TV for a living should make an effort though, you don't go on stage to do your job tuned to GADG do you... or do you? :roflmao: Sorry I know you don't :)

You are right, they may be odd sounding but they are probably odd sounding everytime and in every context right?

Yes, always the same but not just my language, Mike was saying about the native American names, it happens all over; the teacher I was on about this morning did the same but mispronounced an English word with a Welsh pronunciation, supposedly professional people.

We see it here too. The level of journalistic communication skills has dropped ten fold...
OR, we are just sounding like old F4RTS..

If you look at a map of FL(actually most of the US), you'll see a lot of long-ish names that have Native American roots. New newsreaders absolutely butcher them. You'd think, once they knew they were coming here, they might ask.
Our newsreaders are generally pretty good , but Siri has some funny pronunciations of First Nations names on this edge of the continent.

There are some place names out here that would be mostly unpronounceable by English speakers in the original Salish.

I can accept that for the everyday person who may be a welder or factory worker but for someone who earns their living by supposedly speaking accurately I do feel they could at least have a bit of a practice before coming out with something lame because they are too lazy/arrogant/useless to try

These Ampeg V4s were built like Panzers..

The chassis literally floats on 6 screws with grommets, clever mechanical design..

Another big difference between reporters (I won't call them journalists) and welders & factory workers... welders and factory workers will lose their jobs if they don't perform them correctly :meh:

No matter where you go or what you do, you can always find someone to reliably meet your lowest expectations. Next time someone dissapoints you by under delivering, just casually thank them for the effort and say, "It's the least you could do, and I've come to expect that from you". Hopefully they get the not so subtle hint. :D

Speaking of which, we finally have all the trip plans finalized for our Santa Cruz and Monterey visit in August. The wife and I are traveling with two other Porsche Club couples (one of which will be riding with us). Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to fit the HD150 in the Cayenne along with everything else (six sets of golf clubs plus luggage for four people. So I'll have to pass on your outstanding repair offer. Maybe next time we're up your way. If you're band is playing Thurs or Saturday of that week let me know, we might be able to drop in and cheer you on.
