Never golfed at Ridgemark. Staying the first night in Scott’s Valley, the remainder of the time in Monterey.
I live in Ridgemark. People come from SF to golf there. Wish I golfed but people swear by it..

I hear ya on sealed cabs. But I had a US SVT-CL running through a Mesa 212 Powerhouse, which was ported. And it sounded killer. Wasn’t loose sounding at all considering the cab was ported.
I’m sure the tuning of the cab had a bit to do with it. So that’s why I was asking your thoughts about it all.
But I can imagine what a Thunderfunk would sound like.

Gorgeous bass! Could someone tell me more about Cataldo basses? I admit to not knowing anything about them. Before I offer up a prized bass for trade, I'd like to hear TB'ers thoughts on Cataldo's products

I have Chromes on my 67 NR. Very happy with them for classic rock/light jazz-really everything.

Chromes on a VP will sound great. Unfortunately they're just to bright for my tastes on the VP but should have a lot of punch if that's what you're looking for. Cobalt flats and Fender 7150 rounds are the best strings I've tried on the VP if your goal is to tame the inherent top end of that bass.Cool! I’m going to order a set and try them. The VP is a looker and I want to bring her out more! If I get a rock gig, I can always swap back to the Rotosounds
Do the Cobalts flats mellow into sounding like a flat wound?
I’ve got Chromes on my Jazz based shaped object and they have aged into a really nice tight punchiness. That bass has Fender SCNs (low output, but that what gain controls are for
)I just need to figure out if I should get the long or extra long set.

So, I’ve gotta ask everyone a question. You guys are all very cordial, but also honest and subjective. Since I started playing bass in 1998, I have always played solid state and hybrid style amps. I’ve been pretty happy with the tone that I’ve gotten over the years, but I’d always wanted a true SVT rig. About a year ago I picked up an SVT 810AV cab and an SVT-4PRO head. It’s sounded really good, and super loud. A lot warmer than the rig I had before. But, an opportunity cake up, and I traded the 4PRO for a nearly brand new SVT CL. I’m sure you’ve all seen my bragging post.
My question is, what amp does everyone play? And why? Do you prefer tube or SS or Hybrid? Why?
I literally brought the Classic home Friday night and gigged it Saturday night. I didn’t have much time to fool with it. All of the overtones and harmonics kinda screwed with me during the show. It sounded soooo much different than anything else I’ve ever played, including the 4PRO. SUPER DUPER loud. During the first set I tweaked a little bit, and just as soon as I got it singing, the front of house guy was like “Dude, I’m chasing your gain all over the place, and you’re freaking ROMPING!!” I tried to apologize, saying that I literally just got the amp. He said, “Well, if you keep going up and down, I’m just gonna take you out of the mix.”
Then came the kicker. He says, “You gotta get a new cab or amp or something. I had a guy here last weekend with a Hartke 4x10 that sounded sooo good, and would totally kill your amp.” At first, I didn’t understand. Like he literally said I was too loud, then he said a Hartke rig would kill my SVT. I shook hands and chummed up with the between set groupies(guys and girls, I’m not being egotistical. Y’all gigging musicians know what’s up), and when I went back on stage, I took the gain up from 1.5 to 2.5. I had the master volume maxed out per what I’ve read some users do to emulate old SVT’s. It was absolutely KILLING loud. Major air moving. I tried to come back down a bit, but the amp lost all that singing responsiveness. It’s like there was no in between. Either I turned up just a smidge and it was so alive, or down a you’ve and lost all its balls.
I’d really like to hear what the club has to say about this issue. I’ve had tube guitar amps for years, but never a full blown tube bass rig.
