Thunderbird Club

I came across what is supposed to be a Gibson Thunderbird in a pawn shop yesterday. It is missing the truss rod cover/Gibson nameplate and the control panel cover on the back. Weird. It has the serial number on the back of the headstock and a made in date of 2011. The serial number checks out to 2011. It appears to have a multilaminate neck that goes all the way thru the body. Black hardware and what i would call a tobacco burst finish.

Is that neck a normal thing? I thought these were set neck?

Gibson and Epiphone Reverse TBirds are always neckthrough.

Gibson Thunderbirds are neck thru except for the Studio which has a set neck and a much thinner headstock or the Non-Reverse which is set neck. I don't know when Gibson started stamping the year in the headstock but that has been going on for a little while. Until somewhat recently Epi Birds were bolt on or set neck (the Elitist was set neck). There has been a shift to neck thru on newer Epi Birds lately with the Pro 4, Classic Pro, and Vintage Pro, but they still make the bolt neck variety.

Yes. Tons of people. Lots of cool vintage cars. It’s also a “Taste Of” event so it attracts folks from all walks of life. The response for Elvis is not to be underestimated. We always talk about getting the opening slot. Maybe next year. Are you familiar with Terry Buckwald? Dude does well with his schtict. Second home in Vegas and big RV. One guy I talked to didn’t believe me when I told him the Mercedes 300 had explosive bolts in the doors in case it flipped. I enjoy dispensing fun facts. Speaking of, how many years did the Charger have hideaway headlights? The one I saw was really nice. Sorry to be Talkcarsandfood.

Never heard of him... but explosive bolts?! o_O

The Charger had hideaway headlights up to and including 1972.

It is my opinion that all budding young guitar players, should be forced to start with like, a silver face Bassman or other such minimalist amps with controls like this on it:

I never even thought of playing guitar through the octave pedal!

It’s pretty cool for bass. I had to put a piece of hockey tape over the main dial though. It sucks when you hit it and get mostly octave up:banghead:

1 of our guitar players uses my old octaver(Boss OC-2)which only does octave down-Wes Montgomery effect.

Auditioning guitar players years ago, we found the more gear the guy showed up with, the crappier his playing ability was.

I really like bass->cord->amp. I don’t think bass needs effects very often, but there are places where it makes sense. I was auditioning for an R&B / World band a few weeks ago and they have “Let’s Dance” on their list. It was nice to be able to get a fat synth-like tone on that. And it looks like I got the gig.
