Do they use a laminate type construction on the neck then? I counted 14 separate plys.

Just trying to be sure what it is exactly. They have a 1,000 price tag on it. No covers and no case. I don't think its worth that as it sits. seems to be in decent enough shape, a couple nicks and whatnot but not beat up. Very strange that its missing the truss rod cover and the control panel cover.

Sadly, that is more often the case than not from what I've seen.

I really like bass->cord->amp. I don’t think bass needs effects very often, but there are places where it makes sense. I was auditioning for an R&B / World band a few weeks ago and they have “Let’s Dance” on their list. It was nice to be able to get a fat synth-like tone on that. And it looks like I got the gig.

Congrats! Love to hear some of that- including "Let's Dance".

I can get by with that, and even without a couple of the pedals I have, but I really, really like having the comp and EQ. The sound peeps like the comp as well. And I want a volume pedal. My fingers are busy enough. Don't want it often, but when I do... it's not there.

I use my POG-octave up-when we're working as a trio to fatten it up under solos. When it's all 4 of us-as it was last night-it usually stays in the duffel bag.

I think the typical neck is 9 ply, but you might be counting further out than we do. It is weird that the truss rod cover and control cover are missing, but people do strange things with guitars sometimes. Here is an image I found:

$1000 seems high for one missing parts and no case. They are not crucial parts in the functioning of the bass but if you are replacing them it will cost money, but those are probably the cheapest parts to replace, aside from the case. I would use that as a bargaining point if I was trying to buy it.

Yeah heard a story once (dunno how true it is) of when Ozzy was auditioning guitarists for Blizzard and most of the auditioning players would show up with tons of gear and amp stacks. Rhodes showed up with a Les Paul and a little practice amp...

My comment was geared toward guitar players and the tendencies many of them have, to go nuts with gain saturation under the misnomer of "tone". Now... if we were having a conversation in which you'd asked for tips on how to improve your tone... I'd likely be sayin' a whole buncha stuff you didn't wanna hear... but that doesn't mean I don't like you, or wouldn't like your gear, or your music, or what-have-ya. My appreciation for music begins with what comes out of the speakers... not what goes in. The gear appreciation is a related, but separate "condition".:)

I didn't feel that way at all, I was just kinda joining in the conversation and giving some insight about my musical style so when we're talking, folks have an idea where I'm coming from :thumbsup:

When I ask for advice, I listen very closely because I do want to hear! Otherwise I wouldn't've asked :laugh:

I choose a tone for a particular project based first on which bass or guitar sounds best through whichever amp and cabinet sound best ... again, for that project. The purest and most stripped down voice is what I listen for. Once I hear the right one, I'll lock those pieces down as the 'official', core bass or guitar for that project. Only after that is established, will the possibility of effects even be considered. :)

Yeah man... if you're musically "all over the place", playin' different gear & different styles... it makes total sense to have a versatile all-in-one toybox. Otherwise, you'd spend half yer time lookin' for gadgets & parts & settin' up & blah blah blah...
