It's similar to an older school Trace in that it's got a strong emphasis in lo mids, which I find a really good fundamental sound. It sounds muscly and forward, a good deal less articulate than my SMX. I kinda am liking it better, at this point anyway, than my SMX.
There's none of the standard Trace Elliot fluff: No lights, no delicate, surgical tools on hand, no "sound management". Features have been sacrificed for size, really- it's a no nonsense, git-er-done machine, and I'm good with that at this point in my playing life.

So I think it's definitely a departure, in that really it's a very portable, feature-light, efficient head.

I'm running it into an Eminence BP-102-loaded, 4 ohm 210 cab I modded from a one-off EAW 410 cab (it was really too small for a proper 410 cab). For moving more air I run it into an Ampeg 410HLF, also 4 ohms.

The 210 is a fairly bassy hit for a small box, I use it pointed at the drummer for reggae gigs.
The Ampeg is killin' it...

It's not overly heavy, just really big. But the nice thing, is something I unfortunately don't have yet, is they came with dollies that screwed into the cab.

I came across what is supposed to be a Gibson Thunderbird in a pawn shop yesterday. It is missing the truss rod cover/Gibson nameplate and the control panel cover on the back. Weird. It has the serial number on the back of the headstock and a made in date of 2011. The serial number checks out to 2011. It appears to have a multilaminate neck that goes all the way thru the body. Black hardware and what i would call a tobacco burst finish.

Is that neck a normal thing? I thought these were set neck?

Neck through. All of 'em except Studios.

Just curious, if anyone here uses a distortion/fuzz pedal with their Bird, what kind do you prefer?
I've been experimenting lately with my cousin's hand-me-down Danelectro FAB Metal pedal and I've found it can make those muffled lower tones sound more full and adds just the sweetest slight touch of buzz to the notes.

I have been using an EHX Muff pedal with pretty good results. I don't use it much, though. EHX Bass Soul Food adds just a little overdrive without the poke your eye out thing. My favorite fuzz with all bass guitars is the built in one that is in an Acoustic 360 preamp. That's a slightly different thing from a pedal though.

Do they use a laminate type construction on the neck then? I counted 14 separate plys.

Just trying to be sure what it is exactly. They have a 1,000 price tag on it. No covers and no case. I don't think its worth that as it sits. seems to be in decent enough shape, a couple nicks and whatnot but not beat up. Very strange that its missing the truss rod cover and the control panel cover.

14 laminates? That would make it stronger than hell, but it's not what Gibson did. $1K missing all that stuff is too much. Get them down to $800 and it's a decent deal, not great.

Where is the guitar cord plug ?
On top of body? Or in the end ?

Yeah, I really need a good overdrive, but the Bass Big Muff Pi works great for fuzz. Lots and lots of fuzz. All the fuzz.

Unless it's a bolt on neck (many Eppi models but not all) or a NR Gibby which I think is a set neck. I don't recall for sure what the Studio TBird has but I think it might be set neck.

Yeah, tripped on that one. Not so familiar with EPIs. Yes, for Gibbys the NRs are set neck as well as the Studio and the short scale..
