Thunderbird Club

I have loved them since I first heard Fly by Night.
I like them from the first album onwards. IMHO they were on fire from Farewell to Kings through to Moving Pictures. Then it all got a little too commercial for me... GL was listening to Bill Bruford's "Gradually going Tornado" with Jeff Berlin on bass at the time and it shows in Moving Pictures...really dig his tone on that album..

A cherry finish Studio V that to me didn't sound right... a bit too muddy, IMO. Probably the sound guys fault.

Much of the sound wasn't great. I couldn't hear what Lips was yelling into his pickups.
Correct in blaming at least one of the sound men involved. And then there is Yoot Oobs compression in an attempt to save storage and bandwidth. Many potential points of failure.

Yeah, the sound quality was lacking...uh...quality.

Because he has to wear a silly/strange hat/outfit/mask to complement the silly/strange hat/outfit/mask that Les has chosen.
And that his guitar parts tend to be innocuous/obligatory/wallpaper-like, and make little if any notable statement of their own. Les is the subject of interest in an environment...

Speaking of innocuous players, I was watching a Stones concert from 82 last night. Bill Wyman mostly just stood there (with his Travis Bean) playing his parts with this deadpan expression on his face. A lot of times he looked like he was disgusted with the ridiculous prancing and posing of Jagger/Richards/Wood.
Almost mentioned Wyman instead of Williams...:roflmao:
I like Wyman's simplistic approach, works for the Stones..

For sure. I always liked his playing - the long walks on the Chuck Berry tunes from Get Yer Yayas Out.
It was funny to see their expressions up close. Bobby Keys comes out at one point and nobody (except Charlie) even acknowledges him for a few songs or leaves space for his playing.

That stoic look/stance made him look super cool...

I like Williams' playing. He's like watching a carpenter put joists and other structural elements where they ought to go in the construction of a house.
and looked cool doing it. folks try and discredit him but what else than pedaling eights would have worked with that band? dunno. besides, his eights don't just land on the 1 or 4. he anchors from different spots. really like his approach...
