The Metalhead girl is starting to creep me out.
I think her cold dark hand is reaching into my soul.
Do I have to forge a Faustian pact to prevent her from dragging me to Hell?

What am I missing? Metalhead girl?

An ad that shows up on the phone version of TB. At least, that's who I assume is meant.

Honestly I wouldn’t consider getting a Studio unless it’s a 5 string. They weigh a tonne ( :smug: ), and they lose too much of the cool factor with that headstock and lack of raised centre block, which make it kinda ugly.

This is coming from a Studio V owner so no one can tell the TalkBass police on me :roflmao:
Never actually had my hands on a Studio Bird before. I've heard others comment about their weight also. What is it about the Studio that brings the extra weight. I'm assuming it's not just a five string neck size issue but also applies to the 4 string as well (IDK - maybe a wrong assumption).

IDK what it's like for working Thunderbird Club members in other areas, but once again our group has gotten hosed out of a gig. Our drummer was in the area of the venue and stopped by to confirm the gig(again) and see if they had any other open dates. Manager gives him the "oops, I booked someone else for that night, sorry".And before anyone asks, clubs do not do contracts. If you ask to do one they suggest you not let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out.It is the off season in FL so we expect it to be slow, but this was the one gig we had this month. We'd been asked to do another place the same night but this gig had been booked months ago. And, of course, the other club already booked someone else for that night. I love to play. I'll quit playing when I can't hold my bass any more*, but I hate the effing business.:banghead::banghead::banghead:
*started to say "hold my Bird" but I didn't want to disturb the "Ehem" police.
I don’t blame you for being angry about that.
One of the local Legions here was having financial difficulty last year. It’s a decent room with a stage/PA so my band and some friends decided to put on a few events.

A friend set up a Sunday afternoon 3-5 jazz series with various local bands (including us) rotating through every second Sunday. Admission was by donation to the musicians and the Legion would benefit by selling more drinks than usual.

First time we played, I booked my band for a Saturday night 2 months in advance. The deal was we would charge and keep a cover. Normally we just get paid a fee by pubs, but the Legion is struggling...
I confirmed with the guy in charge a week later and he told me he wrote it in the calendar. So we do our usual promotion stuff on FB, talk to people about saving the venue etc.

Second time we play the Sunday 3-5 thing, it’s a month before the Saturday we booked, and as we’re packing up, I say to another guy there “See you on May 26”. And the reply is “what? We have a fundraiser here that night”
It turns out the other guy just scratched out our name and booked another event. I try to be a “peace, love, and understanding” kind of dude, but that really pissed me off!
So much for supporting our local Legion.

Our friend went in to book the dates for the fall and they wanted him to change ithe Jazz Series to 2:30 - 4:30 to accommodate their 5pm Meat Draw. He has put money and effort into promoting it as Sunday 3-5 jazz, so he’s now looking at a different venue.

One of the other situations we've run into is multiple managers w/o a "master" calendar. Like hanging on an office wall. Keeping it in a phone is fine as a backup, but an "analog" calendar that can be seen by the staff might cut down on booking screwups. And then some places change managers frequently and the new one brings in favorite acts with no checking on who's already booked or who's done well for the house. We got to one venue that was a 50 mile one way drive for our 2 guitarists only to find another band setting up. We were told that one manager booked us and another booked the other band but they'd give 2 more bookings to replace that one. Didn't even offer us $10 for gas. BTW, didn't give us the bookings either. The guitarists won't make the drive w/o money up front so I'm sure we'll never be there again. One other thing from when we did play there once: the bartender didn't like our repertoire and badmouthed us to management. The audience loved us and wanted to know when we'd be back. Probably "the 12th of never"

Ahh, you got the Hello-Kitty treatment. They save that for special guests.

My admin support always called ahead on my trips to make sure I got the red carpet treatment when I arrived. I'll never forget the time I was reviewing some of the upstream manufacturing operations in one of our FDA equalivant rated GMP R&D facilities. They were so proud about their preperations for my visit and in typical Japanese fashion they had every aspect of the tour planned down to the last detail and timed to the minute.

A lot of potential funding was riding on a successful tour. They had correct size safety shoes, a correct size lab coat, gloves, hair nets and even safety glasses that fit over my regular glasses. I got all gowned up and ready to go into the airlock, but before I did I asked the plant manager for a beard net. He was horrified. They didn't have any, apparently facial hair isn't very common there. So I waited while his team scrambled to the nearest hospital for a handful of beard nets. Needless to say that threw the entire schedule off by about 30 minutes.

All ended well, I got my beard net and they got their funding. Sure I could have worn a hair net over my beard (wouldn't be the first time) but they wanted everything perfect. The culture is all about perfection and precision and acknowledgement of organizational hierarchy. They just weren't going to let me walk around a production floor wearing a hair net on my face and be seen by hundreds of workers. It would have shown disrespect (although I'd have been fine with it). I let them follow the protocol they were most comfortable with - when in Rome.
Not really like that. I usually get sent out when there is an expensive (over USD10k/min) line down problem so my travel is neither anticipated nor planned. I have been in teleconference meetings with customers from our office only to be at the same conf call the next day with the exception that I'm now at the customers! Mostly in Asia and Europe with some domestic (Mexico) exceptions.. I then get the royal treatment when the problem is solved. On that occasion that involved Fugu, Shabu Shabu and other "various" activities at a Geisha establishment in Osaka..;)

Yeah that's so rude. Folks will "bump" a band thinking "oh they will be fine" not taking into account that folks changed their calendars to honor dates. Sucks. Never happened in the union days. We sign contracts. "You gonna cancel us?" Thanks for the 75% retribution pay..works well..
