Thunderbird Club

Played a gig in Boulder Creek last night with my 2013 NR into my Markbass 800 through a Markbass 2 X 12 cab.
Starting to grow tired of the Class D thing. Easy to transport but definitely missing in the low end ba!!s department. I think I'll just get rid of that 2 X 12 box, keep the 2 X 10 one for small venues and snag a GK, Eden or Aguilar with 2 X 10s and 1 X 15 for larger venues. My ACC is too big and clumsy and so are my Ampegs.
hmmmmm, maybe replace the Markbass 2 X 12 with a Markbass 15 in addition to the 2 X 10s? hmmmmm.... what to do....what to do...

I can't understand anyone who eschews contracts. They are to the benefit of both parties by clearly laying out expectations on both sides. So, from the bar owner point of view, I can't understand how they would want to hire a band without a contract.

And they are struggling financially? Who would have thunk it?

Seems strange to me that more than one person would be booking acts... Even so, there can only be one boss; if there are many people booking acts, I would expect that there would be a boss signing off on the contract with the contract being clear about dates and times...

I'll put all of the above down to poorly run business operations. Maybe that is why the first year attrition rate of bars and restaurants is so high.
It’s a Legion so they are volunteers. I just expect better from anybody. I won’t book another show there.

Having worked in restaurants for years, it becomes easy to understand why this is the case. Ego, easy partying scene after hours, unending rigorous work and intense service scene. It's easy for an unfit manager to screw things up because everyone else is up to their eyeballs in "hurry-the-f#%@-up".
I teeter off-topic, but the point is that it only takes 1 bad decision to travel through its process and do fundamental damage to an operation. Which is why the contract thing is such a good idea, especially in a busy environment.

Then there's kick back and perks for the booking person etc. etc....
If an establishment really wants your band's services they will not have a problem with a contract..

Nice avatar, what kind of bass? VP?
How about some black and white love, Short Scale Bronco and a Bird...

...both fun to play. Look ma, no tort!

I went paddling yesterday and today (sorry no pictures). Today was great. Because it is threatening rain and thunderstorms are forecast, all the yahoos with jet-skis and power boats stayed home. That made for a great day seeing nature. I spotted several Blue herons (both in flight and wading). I also saw a couple of bald eagles (in Canada known as follicularly impoverished eagles). A beach full of juvenile mallards. With the wind, there was enough chop that I didn't see any fish.
We have a large number of bald eagles around here. Like don’t walk your small dog off leash on a trailo_O

I have a number of problems with the Legion. I will never join and I have little no reason to go to one. I am unsurprised by poor management.
In my immediate area there are a limited number of venues, so we had hoped to help this Legion out and develop a place to gig. You don’t need to be a member, you can now wear a hat, and they have a liquor license.
I’m now going to encourage more events at the community Arts Centre. It’s more hassle if you want beer and wine at the gig, but it’s managed by competent people.

Actually, not having the raised center section would mess with me. I anchor my thumb on that when I play the E string.

One of the reasons I prefer NRs, hence my curiosity..
Got it. I miss interpreted your reply to my post as you prefer the raised center section (like I do) as a place to anchor your thumb. I guess what you're saying is you don't anchor on the raised section and that's why you prefer the NR body style. Got it, makes sense now.

Exactly. I just use the pickup/s for the thumb. Since (for whatever reason) I play TBirds with a pick mostly, it works out.
