Thunderbird Club

FWIW, I played a big band(5 saxes, 4 tpts, 4 'bones, piano, drums and me)gig last night on my TBird. Contrary to rumors, it can be used for all genres of music. It sounded great and got positive comments:). To refresh everyone's memory-and b/c it's Thunderbird Thursday, here 'tis:View attachment 3155838
That’s a lot of brass right there. One of my band mates works for a school district. They were scrapping some older Euphoniums
and ‘Bones. He offered to help sell them, but no. $80 for some melted brass. He did go home with a Ludwig bass drum though.

I didn't have to call in sick today. I got a chance to play the '91 with tapes. I'm not sure what's under the tape, but they sounded great. There's not so much top end sizzle, as you would expect, but there's still a good full sound. I was playing through a Carvin MB12, which is about a sterile sounding an amp as you can get. It's perfect for letting whatever you put in sound exactly like itself. The strings have plenty of thump, and the mids seem pretty good, too. They are well balanced with Chinabuckers. I don't think it will snap and snarl like a rabid dog, which it does with some other strings. That's good and bad. It probably wouldn't sound that good with a pick, either. That's good and bad. They make the tone knob more subtle but more expressive both. I found that I liked it best with the tone dimed, and then adjusting volumes between bridge and neck pickups. The bridge pickup sounds good solo with these strings. That's a first. I usually don't like the bridge pickup all that much. There's no nasal whinyness to these strings at all. I like 'em. Beats me how long they will last. Probably forever.

There's nothing decent about it, trust me. THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oddly enough, the subway is one of the few things I miss about living in NYC. It was a broken down mess in the 1980s when my wife and I were there, but it got you where you were going, usually, cost a buck, and you didn't have to park it or fix it. Just pay a buck and go someplace else. It didn't get stuck in traffic either. Stuck because of other things, sure, but it was usually a whole lot faster than a bus or a much more expensive cab. Besides, I drove a cab and know what kinds of crazy people cabbies are. I wouldn't want to ride in a cab driven by the 22 year old me.

I did 20 jalapeño plants this year.
Pulled up a jungle worth of weeds last weekend getting ready for fall/winter crops.

I'm bumping up against 14 years on my La Bella Black Tapewounds with no sign of deterioration in the wrap or the sound. Finger player only, no pic. Although I did try a felt pic with these strings and got a really cool tone. I'm not an accomplished pic player, hack at best, so I'm sure you're results would be even more interesting. Next time you're at GC get a felt pic and see if you like it.

John Paul Jones was known for using one

I have seen felt picks, but never used one. Guess there's another experiment coming in the near future.

I love them. they sound very close to finger plucking. unlike with normal picks, felt tips start wearing with age (nylon picks do too but not as drastically and over a longer period of time) kinda like strings so they sound different over time.

You can get felt at GC?!?:jawdrop:

I have a Realistic 4-1/4" input, volume(only)each channel, 2-1/4" output mixer:)
I still have one of those!
This is kind of like the change from a first gen cell phone to a smart phone.
It actually sounds pretty good for bass. I just added some compression and I’ve been practicing through it for the last week just to get used to it.
